The $180 bundle

Post by ailama »

:geek:

Hi, I am moving into a new house and I'm looking for a internet/phone solution for the long run. I couldn't not notice the bundle you're offering: uncapped dsl, fibernetics modem/router,phone number port, activation and first month free for $180 which sounds like a nice package. I couldn't find too many details though so here I am asking here.

1. Does the monthly $35 include a dry loop?
2. Will you offer separate bandwidth for the phone or it shares the 5Mbps with the others? And this is taking me to the next question
3. How smart is the router in the offer? Is it a phone adapter too or you're sending a PAP2 as well? Does it have Qos to prioritize the phone against other internet hogs? Do you offer MLPPP and does the router support it? Do you offer installation support for the bundle? Uptime? Trial period and returns?
4. How can I order, how long does it take from A to Z?

ailama,

Here are the answers I hope you were looking for:

1. Does the monthly $35 include a dry loop?
No, the $34.95 only includes DSL ($29.50) and our Canada Unlimited Long Distance ($3.95) which is 2 stage dialing and as it says, unlimited as well as backup dial up ($2.95) which is free. The dryloop is an additional $8.95 per month to total ~$43.90.

2. Will you offer separate bandwidth for the phone or it shares the 5Mbps with the others?
Traffic shaping is an option that we do with our business clients, I'm not too sure whether we would do it for our residential services since it's not heavliy requested. The router specs are below for your perusing. With the "others" do you mean people in your house? It is dryloop so it is virtually a "private" line to your house.

The device is a Thomson SpeedTouch 780, soon to be the TG784 with our ADSL2+ set to be release in the new year. If you wish to read up on the specs since they are ridiculously long and I don't wish to copy/paste them here, you can read them here. Installation support is phone-only, though in some cases we can have a third party installer come out on the occasion that your dryloop isn't terminated correctly or otherwise. The device is a 4 port router, with 2 FX0 ports, wireless 802.11 b/g as well as a PSTN port for faxing etc which you can attach a landline to and switch over to with a code input from the handset.

4. How can I order, how long does it take from A to Z?
Dryloop installation and activation takes 7 - 10 days, shipping obviously depends on where you live and billing is off-set 10 days to accomodate any complications during the installation period, in total I would say a week and a half, of course since it's the holidays there is a Bell brown-out so the are only focused on fulfilling their orders and no other CLECs or Wholesalers...

Thank you for the great input. It certainly answers my original question and I trust many people will find it useful.

I am not sure I am ready for it though and here is how I figured it out and maybe you can confirm if I'm right or correct me if I'm not.
I acquired a Sipura SPA-2100 from eBay that I can use at the new location. I opened a FPL account and got a DID. No internet, phone, cable active at the new location. I am looking to get rid of Rogers cable and Bell phone that I have at the old location.
What I need at the new location is:
- internet (can you provide given I have no phone line active but there is a Bell box at the door?)
- DID transfer from Bell added on the free port of the Sipura along with the current number I have from you. I don't need the Canadian long distance plan for now.
- Could you give me a quotation based on the above?

By the way, I am impressed of the prompt answer you provided during the busiest time of the year!

DID Transfer (LNP - Local Number Porting) is $19.95 as mentioned before, I think, a dryloop terminates to your exsisting Bell NID (outside box) of your house and does not require a phone line since it is data-only. Hence the name, dry, meaning no dial tone (only data).

Though we cannot offer support on third party hardware there are tons of people on here who range from normal VoIP users, to ITSP employees / VoIP technicians who I am sure would be MORE than happy to help!

Number porting is stated above, configuration file is 50 dollars, and to port your number you need an FPL number so if you would like to keep the number from out DID inventory than you would have to register for a new number and port onto that one.

Thank you again, slowly slowly I'm getting there... dumb me! Thanks for your patience, especially with my English
I'll draw a line and do the math, please correct me if I'm wrong.

1. FPL internet ... 35 + 9 for the dryloop = 44
2. config file/password for my account = 50
3. LNP for my Bell number = 20
My ATA has two phone ports, can I have the two numbers working at the same time within the cost above or I need to pay a second 50?

I think I can handle configuration, I worked for Vonage at some point.

You would need to pay an additional $50 per phone number you want to get SIP settings for. Other than that your math is correct!

This was helpful to me. Thanks. Actually, is there anywhere else on the site that lists the DSL costs etc.? I'm trying to sell my father on switching over and I've had a hell of a time just finding prices to throw at him.

Oh I know how that feels (switching over a family member when dialups been their friend for 15 years!)

We're working on a new site design that will put everything in a sort of.. "In your face" layout.

I would say it will be up in the next 5 - 8 months. I know that doesn't help you now, but just so you know.
