Intermittent Incoming Call Problem

Post by michaeljb »

Hi.

I have recently purchased a fongo home adapter and i am having an issue with incoming calls.

I have had people text me saying that they cannot get though when trying to call, so i call my number from my cell phone and i hear 2 rings then an engaged tone from the ear piece of my cell, but my phone connected to my fongo adapter doesn't even ring. If i power cycle the adapter then call it again, it rings.

I have a uniden cordless phone connected to it which i have taken back to the store and swapped out for a new one but its still happening.

I have called support several times about this, but they don't know what the problem is or they fob you off. After persistly calling i finally got through to someone who knows what he is talking about. He has romote accessed my pc and changed the ata config slightly and checked the port forwarding on my router which was correct. He has noww installed x-lite and asked me to monitor the problem over the next few days. I have to call the adapter and if the problem arises, then i have to unplug the adapter and launch the x-lite and call again. So far when this has happened, the x-lite always works.. This seems to point the fault at the phone. Has anyone else had similar issues with cordless phones?

My equipment is as follows

Grandstream fongo adapter
Uniden dect 6.0 cordless phone
motorola Surfboard SBG6580 broadband router
ISP is Eastlink
20 mb broadband speed.

I would appreciate any help with this.

Thanks

Try running stun on the Ata (eg. stun.callwithus.com). This may help.

Oh fun... eastlink.
Surfboard with router built-in? Hmm, I've not seen that before. I always loved the surfboards for NOT being routers :P

Anyway, glad to hear you received some assistance, even if it hasn't proven to be perfect. I'm surprised that the X-Lite client is working flawlessly if there is proper port-forwarding set-up to work the with ATA.

Log-on to the ATA and give it a static IP, and check which SIP and RTP ports it is using.

Then log on to the Router, update the port-forward settings to match the static IP you set (Try to pick an IP not in the DHCP range of your router). And double check that the ports in the port-forward menu match the ones listed in the ATA's config. ("home phone adapter")

Other than trying a STUN server you may also want to check the ATA's "Nat Keep-Alive" settings.

Both STUN and Nat Keep-Alive need to be tested individually in both the on and off positions as whether they work or are necessary is different on a case-by-case basis.

Keep us posted.

Also if you prefer to have someone else take a look, just drop me an e-mail through my profile page on Fongo and I can use team-viewer to remotely look at the config again with you.

My dad has that SBG6580 router and uses Eastlink in Halifax. I tried to hook up a Magicjack hardware device directly to the SBG6580, and it did not work well. Same issues you have. Now, I was already installing a DD-WRT friendly router to that modem, and when I did, I connected the Magicjack to the router, and nothing other than the router to the modem, and I got good results.

I would guess the Surfboard is not a good router, which is not surprising, because most combo devices rarely ever are. However, it will happily cede control to a router, and it might as well be a good one, preferably one that is DD-WRT flash-able.

I have the same problem and have tried calling support but to no avail. Incoming calls dont get through. If I disconnect and reconnet all equipment, it seems to work fine for few minutes and then back to same issue. No problems in making outgoing calls.

Grandstream adapter came pre-configured and I have no clue how to get into setting for this adapter.
I am using Panasonic cordless phone and Belkin N router with rogers motorola cable modem.

What is X-Lite. Can I install it on my own? Could you please provide the name of the customer support who helped you. I may be able to get some help.

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

I solved the problem. Had to find out the Ip address for grandstream and enable NAT under DMZ for the Ip as mentioned in one of the posts. That seems to solve the problem.

But have a new problem....no ring tone for incoming calls from the dialer side. I called support and they said its a known problem for some of the newly ported numbers and acanac is working on it. Hope they are able to resolve the issue soon.
