If I sign up and pay $50 for the unlock key and decide to port my number after for $25. Do I have to pay another $50?
Also is it possible I port after I test it or does it have to be done at once?
Thanks,

You can port at any time for $25 and will not require another VoIP Unlock Key. The VoIP Unlock Key is unique per account and can only be applied once to an account.

Re: Porting number after testing FPL
Keep in mind that when you port in, you LOSE your existing FPL # (it is overwritten with your port-in #). Steve has said that the VOIP unlock key is PER-ACCOUNT (not per number), so as long as you port INTO the existing FPL account that you have the unlock key for, you avoid the 2nd charge.
What some people have done, is after they become "attached" to their trial FPL account # is created a 2nd "throw-away" account to port INTO, so they can maintain both their EXISTING port in number AND their EXISTING FPL # ... in this case though, if you HAD purchased an unlock key for your FPL trial account, you would have to purchase a 2nd one ...
Just a few things to consider before you make any hard and fast decisions ...

If you have an account with a VoIP unlock key, and port in a number, you will not be obligated to purchase a new key.
Now, let's say you no longer want the number you ported in, but, instead, you would rather have your cell phone number to be used. You would then port it in, and again, no need to purchase a new key.
Once purchased, you will not need to buy a key for a second time unless it is a second account you have signed up. In that case, you would only need to purchase the key for the second account.

My apologies to resurrect an old post... Question... I didn't realize that the FPL number was going to be overwritten by the port in number... Like many others, I got attached to my FPL number... Is there a way to get back that number? Thanks!

You only hope is to appeal to a Fongo staff members better nature to try and get the number back for you, but this would be a big favour from them.
