New release? When?

Post by vlasko29 »

Hi, last week on Friday (18/12/09) I was told that on Monday you would release e a new version of the software that ostensibly addresses some of the problems (http://forum.freephoneline.ca/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=674) that have been reported:

It seems that right now it's still the same version on the website (2.2.0.0) Is there an updated ETA?

Yes there was a new version release that fixed quite a few bugs but it looked like after a few test calls and CPU usage logs (that were under 20%!) there were still some bugs so we took it offline and are investigating some possible issues.

I am really looking forward to it...the touch tone/cpu spikes are driving me crazy. On the bright side, outgoing voice quality seems to have improved, at least noone's complaining that they can't hear me or that it's breaking up....thank you.

That's what we're working on now actually. It also looks like we're moving away from Java and switching to something that can be more easily ported over to Mac and Linux (C++) this will mean new framework, better functionality, and a more seamless GUI!

Based on my brief experience, I'd say that's a winning move. I, as many of your other customers, current and prospective, will surely welcome the new platforms as well... But does that mean that there won't be a fix in the short term?

Curious if a move away from Java is made, will backwards compatibility with the old Java softphone be maintained?
Only curious because of some of the cross-platform magic I've seen people accomplish with it.

The old releases will still work, but we won't be further developing a Java client

We are coding and reprogramming the application platform as we speak for C++ (Windows). Not updates as of yet but I will of course keep you updated.
