No ringing on caller's end

Post by totoro »

Hello,

I just ported a number to FPL . I am using spa 112 ATA and latest public firmware. My setup seems to be running fine, except from the caller not hearing any ringing tone on his/her end. That is, after dialing my number and a subsequent pause during which the call gets initiated, the first thing the caller hears is either the vm message or the answerer. On the receiving end, everything seems to be fine, ringing including..

thanks for any idea on how to solve this.

Are there any forwards/follow-me on your account at all, or is it straight in on the phone number (ported)?

On average, how many "local" rings do you hear before you answer? Alternately, when testing, how long (in seconds/timed) is the dead-air sound delay on the caller's end?

I would suggest that this may be a network-side issue, as there have been 2 other posts recently about this -- I would strongly urge you to PM to Mike or Neil concerning this and stating your account number/phone number...

thank you for your reply.

There is no forward, follow-me, the sip is configured directly to fpl proxy (no pbx, etc). I might try the latter later today though, just to see if i get the same behaviour.

the rings are configured such as the local answering machine enters first (ie before fpl vm). i think i get 3 or 4.

on my network -- router-wise -- everything seems to be fine. i reconnected/powered down/up ata to no avail. I didn't do the same for router/modem but usually that doesn't help much.

Caller doesn't hear ring tone

Post by jmorwick »

Hi,

I just had my number ported from Bell and for some reason when people call they don't hear a ring tone, so they don't know that they have a connected call. People tend to hang up and call back.

Any ideas on what setting to change in my ATA to correct this problem?

tx,
J.

I am not sure whether my previous post has been deleted or just waiting to be approved.

However, on the meantime i found another post that shows a similar issue: http://forum.fongo.com/viewtopic.php?f= ... ack#p32946

Will follow that up.

From the number of people experiencing this, it seems to be a network problem. It also appears to be affecting mainly ported numbers, and one other person says that they were told it was a porting-related issue. I hope that Fongo can get this sorted quickly, as it is a rather large problem if it is a network issue.

Your post was waiting to be approved, as you were below the magic 5 post threshhold to help prevent spam on the forums....

My query to you about the forwards was before the floodgates of complaints about this problem openned; it now appears to be widespread and not isolated as it seemed before, so it is something that will need back-office intervention from Fongo.

My best suggestion is to stay in PM contact with MIKE from Fongo to get this issue resolved.

This appears to be a problem that is associated with the port-process, there are a few other threads on this, and it appears that they are all port-related. Another user has said that he was told that it is a network problem and should be being worked on.

In the interim, I would PM your details to either MIKE or NEIL from the Fongo Forums so that they can look into your issue specifically.

Same problem after number ported from Cogeco

Post by FongoUser »

Hi,
I am a new Fongo Home Phone user.
My number was ported from my cable/internet/phone provider.
It's taken a WEEK and the problem has not been resolved. Callers hear no ring when they call my number.
Every time I call support it sounds like the there is NO ONE actually working on the case.

Waiting a week to resolve a critical problem like this is not acceptable.
