Hey all,
I tried plugging my Linksys ata into a router down here in North Carolina while I am here visiting family for Christmas, and it won't seem to connect to my Freephoneline service. The isp here is Centurylink, formerly called Embarq. Anyone have any answers why it won't connect?

I think it is because the connection has to come from a Canadian IP. I have read posts to this effect.
The only way is to maybe route it through a proxy in Canada.

Another option is to use a VOIP provider like Voxalot, and have the Freephoneline calls routed through them.

That makes no sense as Voxalot is not Canadian. If you can register with voxalot, it should work with US IP too.
I suggest that OP try his ATA with another provider and see if it works.

I was hoping Admin would comment on my post as to how true it is. I was also going to suggest trying sipsorcery which I am sure also works.zombie999 wrote:That makes no sense as Voxalot is not Canadian. If you can register with voxalot, it should work with US IP too.

It could be something simple like the router is blocking the connection and the ports just need opening. Maybe Admin could tell us if it needs to have a Canadian IP to connect in, and if this is true why Voxalot or Sipsorcery might work.

I have seen it mentioned here by the admins that Freephoneline usually works outside of Canada, you just lose proper 911 service. My setup here is my Linksys papt2-na plugged into a relatives router here in Beaufort, NC. At home I plug it into my router and I never had to open any ports etc, it just works.

Haven't had a problem using them while being overseas. Might be the ISP or router messing with VOIP.

Did you made the forward for the port 5060 and 5061 to the IP that was attribut in the family router?
