Dell Voice Stops Dialing Out

Post by pehughe4107 »

Dell Voice 1.1.1.0 on PC Running Windows 7
Router: Linksys WRT54GL
Problem:
Was working perfectly until today. Clicking on the Voice mail tab does not contact voice mail. Entering phone numbers on the Dialpad and clicking call does nothing.

Attempts to correct: Restarted Router, Restarted PC. Uninstalled Dell Voice and reinstalled, Uninstalled Dell voice and downloaded new copy from Dell Voice Website. Tried to call with Windows Firewall dissabled/ enabled, no change. Went into Windows 7 firewall settings and added Dellvoice to both outbound and inbound rules with access to all ports. and finaly turned off anti Virus Software, no change.

Note: This PC has two hard drives, one with windows XP, one with Windows 7, Dell Voice doesn't work on XP, and was working flawlessly on Windows 7 until today, which eliminates the Router. Also I have Dell Voice on my iPhone 3G and it works perfectly through the same router.

I have the exact same problem today, my incoming call will just go to my follow me number. Is your problem fixed?

So far the problem persists. I'm fairly certain that the routers are not at fault at all. My reason for this is that I haven't done anything to the router and since Dell Voice was working on Windows 7 up until yesterday, I think I can safely assume they are not the issues. I'm going to paste the info from the last entry in the error log, maybe this will help.

"[error]
date=19.09.12 22:43:02
message=java.net.ConnectException: Connection timed out: connect
java.net.DualStackPlainSocketImpl.connect0(Native Method)
java.net.DualStackPlainSocketImpl.socketConnect(Unknown Source)
java.net.AbstractPlainSocketImpl.doConnect(Unknown Source)
java.net.AbstractPlainSocketImpl.connectToAddress(Unknown Source)
java.net.AbstractPlainSocketImpl.connect(Unknown Source)
java.net.PlainSocketImpl.connect(Unknown Source)
java.net.SocksSocketImpl.connect(Unknown Source)
java.net.Socket.connect(Unknown Source)
java.net.Socket.connect(Unknown Source)
java.net.Socket.<init>(Unknown Source)
java.net.Socket.<init>(Unknown Source)
sd.<init>(sd.java)
ph.<init>(ph.java)
"
So far the only idea I have is that either Windows has installed an update which has changed something, perhaps corrupting a registry setting. or maybe somthing with Java. Which Dell Voice seems to need maybe this info will mean somthing to someone.

On a further note Dell Voice has ceased to work on my iPhone. Maybe it's time to just face the fact that this is not very stable software and see if there is another option, but who knows maybe something will turn up.

If your iPhone ceased to work, then it is not something about Windows, and more people will be affected. I don't think it is Java too, because I uninstalled Java and reinstall DV, so it will install the version that comes with DV.
May be it is time to look for something else.

Just wanted to update the last thing I posted. I said yesterday that the Dell Voice app on my iPhone had stopped connecting to the Fongo service. At the time I even deleted and reinstalled the app, with no improvement. Today however it has started working again, so I must conclude that it was an issue with Fongo, probably working on their servers. It may have had something to do with the new SMS messaging service. I did check their site and there was no notification about any outages. Jeez it would be nice if they had said something. I have to say, although there are some nice features and advantages to using Dell Voice user support is definatly not one of them. I guess the software is going to be about as well supported as their hardware : )

The original issues is still outstanding; Before September the 19th Dell Voice was working perfectly in my Windows 7 environment, but not XP Pro SP3. Now, sadly Dell Voice is no longer a PC Voip app, oh well Dell, thanks anyway... I'm still wondering if it is a Microsoft update issue. Somthing in the registry. Some DLL that needs to be updated / deleted. I don't know I'll keep playing with it, but I'm not hopefull.

Here's another oddity. I have reinstalled Dell Voice several times and I noticed the keypad doesn't work. So when I click on a button on the "Dialpad" with my mouse no numbers are appearing on the display.

Hi, just wanted to add that I was having the same problems with Dellvoice for PC. Worked great for a couple for months but in the last several days, nothing. Removed DV and Java, reinstalled with java version 6 #25, completely removed firewall and still get the test error: unable to send/receive port 13000. I can retrieve my voicemail online but nothin in or out from dv. I have no router to speak of, just a cable modem. Firewall showing several connections including udp port 13000 in and out, however, this happens only in a test, and not when attempting a call. Glad it's not just me, i was about to call my ISP. :(

Hi dibsmft, it's a motorola surfboard sb5101n - http://www.motorola.com/Video-Solutions ... 5101_US-EN . Not sure about the router part, but I don't think so. My firewall shows data moving, and I can get sound from the keypad, but no calls. Thanks for any advice.

It seems that the is a modem only device, or that is how it is configured towards the user. You need to make sure that you computer/Vista is configured to allow the required ports in and to the DellVoice program. Vista should look after this (it did on my computer). Check the ports that DellVoice needs and make sure that you allow them through the Vista firewall. (I have DellVoice running under Vista on my laptop so it does work :) .
Do you have a router or do you only run the one computer on your internet service?

I guess the Android is not running MS Windows :) . To run SIP/voip the MS Windows machine must allow in/out port 5060 UDP (or specified port) (this is the SIP signaling port) and some other ports including (usually a port range) of say 8000 - 8050 UDP (or the range specified by the Voip provider) for the RTP packets that carry the audio and if these ports cannot pass through then voip/SIP will not work properly if at all.

I am also having this problem. Using the Windows client. The service was working fine until recently but now I cannot receive calls (I can call my number and eventually leave a voicemail message but I have to check the website in order to see the message that was left. I get no notification of an incoming call in Dell Voice though). I called another phone yesterday and apparently it rang on their end and they picked up, but I was not able to hear anything on my end nor did the application indicate that the call had been started or ended.

I would love to know if there has been any progress made on this front, if others are still having the same problem or if their service has been restored.

I am still having the problem on my desktop client. On my Android tablet or iTouch , calling out is fine, but incoming is not working, always go to VM or 'follow-me', and no ringing at all.

I am not sure if this is useful at all but I did notice that the call logs are up to date on the website, even if the app does not realize I made or received these calls. Most indicate the disconnect reason was "Normal call clearing" but a number of them give "VPCI VCI assignment failure" instead. Both were other people calling me. Not sure what this means.

Hi, no change today, even with the firewall (Comodo) uninstalled and no windows firewall. With more than a couple people reporting this issue can we assume it's a Fongo problem? Has anyone had any luck? Help! :(

I am having the same problem on the Dell Voice Windows XP PC version. I have installed all the latest XP patches, de-installed and re-installed the application, rebooted my PC and routers, installed the latest Java version 7--you name it. Getting same error message as above when testing--Port 13000 not open.

Customer support--what are you doing about this give the flood of messages? It is clear there is an issue with your app? (Not a problem with my Android phone and tablet.)

Well it seems Fongo have quietly fixed some of their issues, ;) I can dial out to voice mail and to contacts listed in the contact tab. However the dialpad doesn't relay numbers from the buttons to the textbox. When I roll the mouse pointer over the button, it highlights, but after clicking it, the button loses focus and is no longer highlighted. If I click in the textbox, where the numbers appear when your dialing, there is a flashing cursor, but If I click one of the buttons the cursor dissappears. So...this is clearly, a software issue, not a hardware issue, or a router issue, just a buggy piece of software, issue.

The least Fongo could do is to include a menu option to update the software without the need of downloading it from their web site, un-installing the old one and then re-installing the new one... sure hope this gets fixed, this would be revolutionary once all the bugs get worked out. Keep working at it guys :D

RESOVED: Not sure what the actual resolution was but I'm now able to dial out and recieve calls, at least in Windows 7. So that parts done, now there just a little glich with the dialpad, but I'll take that up in the other post. Thanks to everybody for their input. Thanks to the development team at Fongo for working on this.

Too bad that there is never any tacit acknowledgement of the issue in the first place tho.... don't hold your breath on the dialpad issue. Over in that thread, apparently it is a huge major deal to rewrite the software to work right, and the thing to do is blame JAVA even though it is poor coding on the developers part. Too busy pointing fingers to fix it I suppose.

Hardy, i hate to disagree, but we have multiple times acknoeledged this issue. As has been explained to you multiple times, it is indeed something being looked at, and, as has also been explained multiple times, we have many projects in the works and things we are looking at fixing/improving (like the list of recent bug updates with the launch of DV v1.4)

Although we may have not been expecting this result from Java updates, we are indeed working towards a resolution on this problem.
