I tried to search this, but the search bar says that my terms are too common.
I was wondering if it was possible to change numbers with FPL. Not only is FPL great for making calls, but if you were able to change your number between cities on the fly it would be amazing. I have an messaging system that I can dial into, and if I was able to create a local number that would forward to my voicemail I would be able to avoid long distance charges on my cellphone while out of town.
Ex: I live in Toronto, and I travel to London Ont. for the weekend. If I was able to create a London phone number that would forward to my voicemail, then I would only be charged airtime by my carrier. Most of the year I would like a 647 number, but for the week it would be great if my number could be changed to a 226 number.
I was wondering if this was possible without creating tons and tons of accounts? I don't want to drain FPLs resources as it is a great service. I notice that FPL blocks two different numbers forwarding to the same phone, which is understandable! I was just wondering if there was any solution to this besides deleting the account and creating a new one everytime.
Thanks.

Re: Number Change
I'm not quite sure what you mean, do you mean a local number for you to call and check your voicemail? If so, please look here: http://www.freephoneline.ca/faq#23 and read the whole "Voicemail" section.

Right now the biggest drawback to that is that fact we don't want people simply "harvesting" numbers to change between as they move around, travel, etc.sneek wrote:I tried to search this, but the search bar says that my terms are too common.

Although I have noted your suggestion and will certainly pass it along! Perhaps in the future we could find a way to accommodate some form of system like that.

Re: Number Change
Yeah, the issue is that it could be abused. I was just looking for an easier way so that I don't have to delete the account everytime. I have no problem with doing so, but I feel like I am wasting resources.
I was not looking to access my FPL voicemail, but rather my business voicemail. Sadly in this country the only service that is worse than landline is cellular. Even nationwide access numbers to our FPL accounts would be useful. If we could dial in, punch in our phone number then punch in the pin, and then have the ability to dial out, or even just call out FPL number.
Thanks for taking the time to look this over!
PS: FPL is awesome, the voice quality is superb unlike a lot of pay services! I am proud to tell my friends about FPL! It is great that somebody is doing something for Canadians!

Have you considered the freephoneline.ca long distance plans? They allow a secondary number on the account to use the long distance service. This has similar requirements to what you're after. We have nationwide access numbers, you call in, it authenticates via your caller-ID number, and lets you make long distance calls within the regions your calling plan allows.sneek wrote:I was not looking to access my FPL voicemail, but rather my business voicemail. Re: Number Change
I would happily pay $50/yr for a couple extra numbers that forward to my original account.
So for the $58 I gain the ability to use dial into my original FPL account from other cities? Is there currently any access numbers for places like Edmonton and Vancouver? I looked at the VM access numbers and I didn't see ones for Edmonton, Calgary, Banff or Vancouver.

Re: Number Change
It doesn't dial through your freephoneline number, but you'd have two numbers, freephoneline and cellphone, on the account. If you're in another city, just bring your cellphone along and do your long distance calling by using the access number. The system will automatically pass your cellphone caller-ID through, so the called party will infact know it's you. Of course if you have the softphone or an ATA in another city, you can also dial into the long distance system.sneek wrote:I would happily pay $50/yr for a couple extra numbers that forward to my original account.
