New customer with Fast Busy on all outgoing calls

Post by CaptainN »

I have a Spa3102 with latest firmware connected to cable modem directly, and I can receive incoming calls, but all outgoing calls get a fast busy. Any idea what's going on?

Hard to guess what the problem could be from the information you have given. What IP, internal or external, does the 3102 get and are you using it as a router? What modem do you have?

Well turns out, it doesn`t like having`&`in the caller display. Used `+`instead and all is well.

That's come up a few times before I seem to remember. Really difficult to try and find as lots of other things would come to mind first, you did well :D

Maybe it's just me, but if this is a reason for the ATA to not work, that the manufacturers would make it so you couldn't actually enter special characters that breaks their product. It must be a very simple thing to add in some kind of regex check somewhere along the way :? or to just put in a quick note about not using them.

Great, so all is well. People as old as me probably would not even try to use special characters in these situations because we are used to them being a problem but younger people would not always be aware of them. "&" is a particularly bad choice because of widespread use as a special character in scripts etc. but there are plenty of others. Is there any point in bothering with the caller display in this case as I think FPL etc reject it and insert the FPL phone number other than for SIP to SIP calls?
