help with voicemail

Post by chaim »

Hi. I was wondering how 1) I can have a copy of voicemails sent to my email
and 2) how can I call my number from a regular phone and pick-up any voicemails in my box, when I am not near the Internet? Thank you.

Hi Chaim,

1) The voicemail to email feature is only available with FPL at the moment. Once the account is set up, you would simply log into your account at www.freephoneline.ca and go to your voicemail options.

2) To be able to retrieve your voicemails, you would be able to verify your email (from anywherei n the world) or by calling one of the access numbers that have been set up for remote retrieval.

The full list of remote access numbers can be found here: http://www.freephoneline.ca/vmAccessNumbers

Thank you very much. However, I called one of those access numbers and it says "please enter your account number." I then entered my 10 digit phone number, as I do not know what my account number is. Then it said that the number I entered did not exist.

When you enter the phone number, you will need to enter the 1 before the area code as well.

Read the faq ... it states it (full # incl NPA with a 1 prefix), but it could also be made clearer, and an EXAMPLE provided ... remember, not all people read all the way thru or know that 10D 11D are different .....

My HUMBLE suggestion is the addendum at the end of the faq along the lines of:

When entering your account number/phone number, always enter your full 10D Fongo number (area code, exchange and line/ NPA-NXX-LINE) with a preceding 1 (one): Example: 16042834011 or 1 778 805 4001 (maybe add spaces for emphasis?) ...

Just my suggestions ... again, not too hard to change a FAQ, but making it clearer is NEVER a bad thing!

Hardy, for new users who are not accustomed to terms such as 10D, NPA, NXXn exchange, etc, etc, we believe this is the simplest way to word it in order to reach a broader number of users. We do thank you for suggestion and will consider it for future use.

Granted -- terminology may be vague, used that as an example. Most Canadians are familiar with 10D (or at least 10-digit) now with the introduction of MANDATORY area code dialing (thank the ILECs largely for the education campaign, the CLECs also pulled some weight on that, whomever was behind the dial-10 initiative). In any case, the term "10-digit" is pretty common place.

More importantly though, was the inclusion of an EXAMPLE in the FAQ to clearly show how the account number should be entered. I think that is the crux of it, and should be fast-tracked for amendment/inclusion. I think we can agree on that at least. :-)
