Important and exciting updates from Fongo!

On behalf of the moderators.

Postby FONGO_mike » 10/19/2012

Firstly, to the many users of our forums, we, the entire Fongo team, would like to say thank you to all of you for helping get Fongo to where they are today!

We the moderators thank you for the appreciation you have shown us as we continue to try and help and guide via these forums.

I would like to take this time to also thank the rest of the Fongo team (the ones you do not have the opportunity of knowing)

Although we thank you for the show of appreciation, please keep in mind that we are indeed supported Fongo. Often, when something is brought to our attention, we bring it to the correct people in Fongo. If it were not for the hard work of the ENTIRE Fongo team, these products would not exist, evolve or continue to work.
Our entire team works diligently to improve, fix and advance our services every day. There is a lot of dedication and belief to what we are presenting to you. We share the appreciation we see in these Forums with our entire team. Via these forums, it may look like, or come across that Fongo_steve, Fongo_neil and myself are the only ones trying to reach out, but to be 100% honest, if it was not for the entire effort of the rest of our team, we would never be able to upgrade, fix, develop or expand any of our services.

I myself tip my head to the work and dedication of the rest of the Fongo team (remember, by being in the head office, we see what is going on behind closed doors) for making Fongo possible!

Acknowledging what Mike said, and from my first hand knowledge of how things work at Fongo too ...

Suggestion: more transparency and better updates.

Stating "we are aware of the problem and have passed it along" is fine, but then there is very little if any follow up (unless it is a MAJOR system/network type issue!). By way of example, I have been all but SCREAMING about the FPL PC softphone for 16 months. No update. No ETA. No acknowledgement that a new version is even in the works. Just "it's been passed along".

Maybe with the forum reorganization, a "KNOWN ISSUES" heading/sticky in each "group" might be appropriate? Along the lines of the "FONGO ANNOUCEMENTS" topic, but specific to each brand, where known issues are posted, and updates can be easily added. Even make it readonly, leaving the regular threads for discussion .... ???

As for the behind the scenes stuff, maybe a "Meet the Fongo staff" --- something could be added to the "about us" webpage, or tossed into an annoucement here .... we did this a bit when Neil and Dom and some others joined up .... ex:

Front-line forum staff:
Steve: main guru wizard, ringmaster
Mike: L-3 ESS wizard, francais support, resident cake eater
Neil: L3, likes goldfish etc etc

Network Support:
"John" - beats on machines with a wrench
"Adam" - fixes stuff John breaks
"Tammy" - orders new parts for John & Adam to break

Phone Staff:
"Mandy" "Gwen" "Todd" "Jack" -- answer incoming calls

blah blah blah

All the way up as high as you want to go, before we can find the execs on the about us page .....
Hardy - Surrey, BC ~~ increasingly disgruntled FPL user ... comon, fix your stuff!

That being said. There are alot of things that could or would need improve on.

First: We need to have a real 24/7 days a week technical support, which can resolve the issue over the phone (not some ticket which gets no where)

Second: We also need a section in the forums, from announcements and issue related problems ( if the service is down or doesnt work should be posted here )

Software side:

The software itself its slow and laggy, meaning that its not fast and responsive, the text messages should not have a popup, should be build in the text message button, so when we click text message it goes right away in the messages not open a window to view and write to them.

Another thing is, the ads have to be removed in some kind of paid app, I understand it generates income but this has to be resolved aswell.

When making a call or receiving a call, when you hold the phone up to your ear, instead of turning the screen off, it places a black tile image, which is a problem because the screen is still active so when you have it against your face when you touch it by accident against your face, it does other things like goes in to the home screen and other places. when the call is active the program should turn off the screen automatically so it doesnt have unwanted accidental touches.

Also, when you use the program abit, when making calls most of the time, when you press END, it doesnt end the call, its like you press END and it doesnt do nothing because the program froze and you need to force shut down to reopen again and the call is not ended because its frozen, until you shut down.

Also the call volume is very low, barely hearable this needs to be boosted higher and loud, even speaker phone is not loud. I have checked this with several phones and they have all the same issues. I was advised to uninstall and reinstall but thats not the case.

Also since there is integration with the phone dialer as being the default app for fongo, which I like, you should also include the sms integration aswell, so you can use the stock phones sms with fongos sms, like you do with the dialer.

The call quality has a delay for 2-5 seconds when your on a call.

If these major things are fixed, this app would be awesome. Im sure everyone would agree on these things. And of course the system doesnt go down.
