use dellvoice in data plan only

Post by avengine »

I want to know is there anyone using dellvoice app in iphone or android phone that is on data plan only.
Right now I am testing the app in ipad2, with ios6, after dellvoice update the code, the app is working fine now. but as you know ipad2 do not has vibration. But my goal is to buy an unlock phone and just get the data plan from rogers $17 no contract for 250M of data and use this as the phone. I need to know can it be vibrate, and also can I use a blue tooth headset to answer the phone.
if you have any experience, and what phone you are using, please share. My old phone contract is almost expire, and want to jump to this solution soon.
one phone that I am interest at is the samsung galaxy note II.
thanks.

The amount of data used for standby and calls was posted some time ago in one of the forums/threads. I cannot find it right now, but a search will help you out on that ...

As is found in our FAQ section:

"When you are connected on a call, Fongo uses 0.5 MB per minute. 0.5 MB = 1 minute of talk time so 100MB of your data is equivalent to 200 minutes of anytime talk on your carriers network when you use Fongo. When you are not on a call the app uses a minimal amount of data to listen for incoming calls."

As to idle usage, please do quote me as this is purely off memory, but Fongo_neil and i seem to recall it being around 20MB a month to sit idle.

this data usage is about right, I install an app call 3g data control and it is free, so far so good, it count all the 3g and wifi usage.
The bottom line is that if you don't look into the usage 6G of wifi use / month is normally to me. But if I do a take care on it I can live with 250M / per month too.
With the blue tooth head set can hear the voice and talk to it but no way to use this to get the call, or end the call use the bluetooth botton. volume control is ok
this is something that I want to find is that possible.
thanks.

I just starting using DV, I have a Samsung Galaxy S and an unlocked iPhone 3G for travelling. My understanding that DV only works when connected to WiFi, it won't use the data plan, I tried. Sometimes you have to login to 'open' web-sites to get DV working. The data plan should not have an impact on your decision only that the smart phone has WiFi capability.

I did some test and put rogers micro sim from the ipad2 into iphone4s, and it is working. But DV is the the real phone app of the iphone, therefore my bluetooth headset cannot use the button to get the line. is there anyone has better way to connect the DV.
the bottom line, data only plan can work, but not 100% like the phone.

Something must be wrong with your setup @mikeedv. DV should use your data plan if no wifi is available. On the Dialpad screen beside the phone number there is an indicator beside Wifi or Data showing which mode it will use for the call. The data plan does figure into the equation if the OP wants to use DV when there is no wifi available (which I think is the case).
