How to set up! - Wanting to port a 2nd (maybe a 3rd) #

Post by AdeAhmed »

Hi all, was looking for some advice to set up FPL/Fongo home phone for faxing...

We currently already have one line with FPL for about a year that we have been very very happy with aside from a bit of downtime and an issue where I had to reset my ATA (PAP2).

My dad is an accountant who only works from home - currently has a landline setup with bell (as well as distinctive ring for faxing), but with the success of FPL and the very limited issues we have experienced in the last year we are thinking to also bring that to FPL. I was testing incoming faxes on our FPL number and it seems to work pretty well with email and pdf (tested with free online fax service). So now looking for some guidance on best way to set things up, keeping in mind that we defn need to keep the bell landline number, and would like to keep the distinctive ring fax # as well.

It seems that I may need to get 2 new config files from FPL: 1 for the landline, and 1 for the distinctive ring fax #. But as I understand it, the PAP2 can only handle two lines, so I think that means that I need another ATA as well (since I already have one line being used). Is that about right? Anything I'm missing?

Also, in regards to downtime from FPL side - it did happen some months ago, but I did not have call forwarding or anything enabled at the time. If there is an issue on the Fongo side (rather than internet subsc) does forwarding and voicemail still work (either/or?).

I guess the alternative would be to just port the phone number to FPL and find some kind of online fax provider that allows for number porting. If anyone has suggestions, I am all ears.

with you ATA you and use the second line if u want to port over another line to FPL

A few times I got VM said that i had pdf file so I knew it was fax

what you can do VM setting and enter your email so when you get pdf fax, FPL will send a message to your email let you know that

Print out and read from there

thanks..already knew most of that...questions are more tailored to having 3 numbers/lines on one ATA if possible, or other suggestions as to how to organize...

Just a word of warning, but I've read that voip is not always reliable for faxing. Perhaps others with more experience could comment.

I don't think 3 numbers/line in one ATA cause most of ATAs I see just have two ports for telephone jack so far

3 numbers/lines need two ATAs

another way to 3 numbers/lines in 1 ATA by forward call setup
