Cannot dial outgoing number

Post by jobushema »

I cannot call an outgoing number - I get a busy tone. However, I can get incoming calls.

I have a second fongo line on the same VOIP adapter - the settings for both are the same except for phone number and password. The second number can make incoming and outgoing calls.

Please can you help me on this

Does the caller ID name have an & symbol in it (eg Jane & Bill)? This can stop outgoing calls.

There is a dial tone. I can receive incoming calls. Tried to reset the VOIP gateway to factory default and then put the settings again but the result is still the same.

YES - It has an & . I will remove it and see if it works. Thanks for the suggestion.

Update

I removed the & and it works fine. Thanks a lot Jake for the info.

Thanks to Jake and Seagate for taking time to respond to my question

It's funny because this is the 2nd time that has come up in a week or so.

I still don't know why the ATA allows you to put them in if it is going to break it, unless it is something FPLs end.

Anyway, glad you are up and going!

Good thing you had that answer ready to go for the 2nd time Jake ... it might be worth Fongo taking a look at their side of things to see if it is indeed a unique problem or if it is more widespread.

With our ATA's, they come pre-programmed and are not meant to be set up with any symbols in it.
If using third party hardware, we have no control over individuals set it up.

Mike,

That is surprising - when I first signed up for Free-phone line a year back - I was told that the ATA supplied by you was not pre-programmed. I had to do the programming with the SIP data provided.

When the ATA is shipped out, it is already set up with the VoIP unlock key. When they arrive, they are supposed to be plug and play. (I have been here well over a year and have always known it to be that way) This help us confirm that the device is properly configured should an issue arrise.
