Just wondering if any one else is experiencing poor sound quality when calling the 807 area code, mostly the 807-468-**** (Kenora) numbers. It's usually (but not all the time) fine on my end (with freephoneline with VOIP adpater) but the person at 807-468-**** (POTS) hears my voice get choppy and sometimes there is a delay, sometimes the voice volume is reduced. I'd say 9 times out of ten, there is some sort of call quality issue when calling this area.
When we call to Quebec incl. Montreal, Alberta inlc. Calgary and BC inlc. Kelowna, the calls are of standard call quality or better on both ends. My average speeds are 20 MB down and 1.49 up and I've given high priority (upload) for QoS on my router for the VOIP adapter.
I'm very happy with the overall service, but I'm wondering why the poor sound quality for this specific area, especially when paying long distance for 807-468-****. Does KMTS (the local POTS company) give low priority to VOIP calls?
Thanks.

Re: Call quality to 807 Area Code
Hi T-Bone,
First, good on you for testing to multiple locations to see if it was more wide spread then to the one location.
When you call that number that is giving you issues, does it happen regardless of the phone they use? (i would suggestion having them try from more then just one telephone in case the issue lay's there)
Also, if that number calls you (instead of you calling htem) do they still report the same problem?

Re: Call quality to 807 Area Code
Thanks for the reply! Just to follow up ... historically speaking, I've called a bunch of different numbers within "807-468-####", hence it's on different phones. All of them should be regular land lines with regular corded & cordless phones. I've also called the local Kenora hospital (non-emergency line) and found the same poor call quality issues, not sure if they use some sort of PBX system to route their calls to each room which have corded phones. Usually when the same person from Kenora (807-468-####) calls back, the call quality is much improved on both ends.

Re: Call quality to 807 Area Code
I would guess that this would be a call-routing issue. My suggestion (sorry Mike and Steve) would be to cut and paste call logs with times from these calls in a PM to Mike or Steve so that they can peek under the hood to see how these calls are being routed/handled. Your description of details seems to support this theory and would be my first guess for where the problem may lie.
