Can't hear the caller when they call
Receiving a call, not being forwarded, and I can't hear the person when I pick up. If I hang up and call them back we both hear each other just fine. What is it about receiving a call and not being able to hear the person?

Re: Can't hear the caller when they call
On what? An ATA, or PC softphone, or one of the mobile apps?
I have audio issues too on incoming calls, PC softphone, FPL-brand -- it takes a few seconds to synch up, with both sides saying HELLO HELLO? a few times. On outbound calls, it is almost always good right out of the gate. I think it is just the way that the client is negotiating the connection that causes a few headaches.
IMHO, probably a little bit of sloppy code that could use some tweaking, because as I say, in my case, it resolves after about 10s of yakking back and forth without being able to hear each other --- if the other party does not BAIL on the call, it normalizes out....

It's just a little weird because when I pick up can't hear a thing (even after 10 secs, still nothing) but then I call the person back and everything is fine. It's really odd.

Re: Can't hear the caller when they call
I had the same problem this evening. When a person calls me The can hear me but I can not hear them (dead silence). This happened several time in a row with more that one caller. I finally set my phone to call forward all of the time to my cell. That works OK. I will try it again tomorrow.

Re: Can't hear the caller when they call
I also have the problem of not being able to hear the caller when they call me. I had it happen several times in a row this evening. I tried calling my phone from my cell phone and had the same problem. I set the phone to call forward to a cell phone and it worked fine. Turned the forwarding off again and could not heat people calling me. Will try again tomorrow.

Re: Can't hear the caller when they call
Recently purchased a new phone system, figuring maybe it was the old phone that was giving the issues. Nope, still can't hear the person at times.

When you are getting no audio at all, what ATA are you using? (and what is the firmware you have on it?)

Is there a setting or option in the ata which may be causing this? It just happened again, and frankly starting to piss me off.

My original thread I said: "If I hang up and call them back we both hear each other just fine."
I tested by calling a Dell Voice # to call the FPL #, I couldn't hear anything at first, but a few seconds later I could. But then when someone called using a LAN line, couldn't hear them at all. Is there some magic fairy dust or pink unicorn playing tricks on me?!

Seriously though, the behind the scenes issues that continue to plague this service do indeed make me scratch my head in utter disbelief!

Re: Can't hear the caller when they call
This has been happening for so long. I made the post in July, but I know it was happening way before that. It's quite sad can't get this fixed, otherwise FPL would be perfect for me. I tried going into my ATA, but with all the settings (which I have no idea what they mean or what they do) I'm left twiddling my thumbsTheHardy wrote:Yespete_fpl wrote:Is there some magic fairy dust or pink unicorn playing tricks on me?!

Re: Can't hear the caller when they call
I have some program, Can't hear the caller for the incomming call.
My Router is DLINK DIR 615. I put the Port Forward for my IP is 5060 16384-16482 for both TCP and UDP. But it does not work. Is there something I forgot to set? Thanks a lot.

Re: Can't hear the caller when they call
Read on a different forum of someone having the same problem, a user recommended "NAT Mapping Enable" & "NAT Keep Alive Enable" to be turned on - tried it, still no progress. Not a call today, problem continues

Can't hear caller when they call
I have been noticing this too on my line. I'm connected to a home PBX which automatically rings my work phone and home phone when a call comes in during work hours. I used to be able to hear on my work phone, but the last 4 calls I tried to answer at work resulted in dead silence.
Often this is a NAT issue. However the issue only started happening in the summer. I had no issues with audio prior to that. My other voip service works ok when forwarding. I haven't changed anything on my end. Since I don't get a lot of calls it's not a major issue for me, but I'm glad I found this forum which confirms something is going wrong and it's not just with my equipment.

Re: Can't hear the caller when they call
I noticed these settings under the firewall page for UDP Endpoint Filtering, and even with the explanation, I'm lost
My router is set to address restricted, would changing to the other two make any difference for this issue?
Endpoint Independent - Any incoming traffic sent to an open port will be forwarded to the application that opened the port. The port
will close if idle for 5 minutes.
Address Restricted - Incoming traffic must match the IP address of the outgoing connection.
Address + Port Restriction - Incoming traffic must match the IP address and port of the outgoing connection.

Re: Can't hear the caller when they call
I changed "UDP Endpoint Filtering" to "Endpoint Independent" on my router, and the calls we've gotten so far seem to be going through. It's only been a couple calls so can't be sure if it's because of that, or if the calls are just lucky.
"Register Expires" I read also might be a issue, I changed it from 3600 to 180.
Whoever else is having the issues I am, try those 2 settings and report back

Re: Can't hear the caller when they call
Well I guess that was short lived. It seemed to work just fine for awhile, but now it's back to not being able to hear the caller, and also not getting a ring and going straight to voicemail.
Am I getting pissed off? Just a little bit.

Re: Can't hear the caller when they call
sounds a bit like a router problem to me. Having said that I have no idea what to suggest to you.
I think I remember reading several people having problems with the dlink 615, so maybe the 601 doesn't want to play nice either.

Re: Can't hear the caller when they call
Thanks for the heads up. I enabled DMZ for the ATA so I'll see if that fixes anything. I'll feel pretty stupid if it is my router which is causing all this fun and not FPL causing it.Jake wrote:sounds a bit like a router problem to me. Having said that I have no idea what to suggest to you.

Re: Can't hear the caller when they call
I think it is probably more router/ATA/ISP related than FPL. It seems like the router is just forgetting or not knowing where to send the packets of data.pete_fpl wrote:Thanks for the heads up. Don't leave it in DMZ if it does fix the problem. If it doesn't, or only does temporarily - try a different router.
