Here an update on the OBi/FPL saga
The OBi110 is installed, and after some help from the friendly community there it now works flawlessly with both FPL and Google Voice.
Time for step 2 in my evil scheming
At one point I am going to port our landline to a prepaid cell phone, we call out way more than we receive calls anyway.
Calling out will seamlessly be done over the Internet with our OBi device.
Incoming calls I'll *21* forward to our FPL number - so that our "normal" phone will ring.
After a while I can own up to the switch, and we can communicate our GV number to our international friends, FPL to our LD Canadian buddies and our local friends can continue to call our local number
It's such a shame I can't port our landline to FPL, that would really make matters easier... and even cheaper. In the long run though I think this will save us a lot of money!
PS: on a slightly less happier note, Google Voice is really stomping hard on the 403 loophole, it has not been possible to forward to any 403 numbers for a long time now, and since a week ago or so, the callback function has ceased to exist on our existing number. Calling out still works via the Talk client and the OBi device, but I'm afraid we Canadians might lose all GV abilities soon.
That leaves us in the capable hands of Fongo - please, Fongo, PLEASE add SMS to FPL as you did with Dell Voice, I REALLY am not happy with the way DV moves forward and FPL seems forgotten... please tell me I'm wrong!
