2 iPhone Questions

Post by d4m1r »

Hey guys, a new user here with (hopefully) 2 simply questions :D

1) If I were to buy a new iphone (3GS lets say) for dedicated use with Dell Voice, would I need to get it activated with a SIM/monthly plan so I could use it? Or could I not even have a real number/SIM card in it and just use Dell Voice on it over wifi?

2) Does anyone know if an app exists that shows which number the person currently calling you dialed? I'd like to be able to tell when the phone is ringing if the person called my real number, or my dell voice number. Do any such iOS apps exist? :|

If you plan to use the app on your 3GS, then you don't need a data plan just wifi. I have DV running on 3 iPods without issue which obviously do not have any sort of data plan or sim card.

Again, if you are using the app, then when calls come in on your DV number, the DV app will ring, other wise your normal dialler will ring; so you should be able to tell which number they called.

If you have just forwarded the call from your DV # to your cell #, then I have not heard of any way to detect that.

Ok thank you.

And yes, I basically forward my DV number to my real cell phone number, but now I have no idea which number the person calling me dialed....For the first ring and if I have wifi enabled, a DV notification would display with the number calling so id know the person called my DV number, but I dont get this notification is wifi isn't enabled :(

When the call is forwarded, we will puch the callers original caller ID info through so that you know who is calling.

He's looking to find out the number someone called to get him (IE his DV # or his cell #)
I don't think that is going to be possible using call forwarding.

Looking at itn ow, i may have been better able to explain.

We have no way at this time of indicating as it is handled as a general forwarded call. As such, we are not able to pass on the information form both the DV account and the callers indentification information also.

I see 2 possible solutions;

1) A different call screen is displayed on the iphone when the person calling you dialed your DV number (like the notification on the first ring over wifi, but installed along side the stock iphone call screen)

2) Enable that DV notification we get when connected over wifi to cover cases when a user is not connected over wifi/3g but would still like to get that notification when someone is calling their DV number.

Are either of these possible? The alternative call screen when someone is calling your forwarded DV number on your iphone would presumably be installed onto the iphone alongside the actual app.

Depend on your iphone iOS you can set notification right on your main screen of your iphone

just set number of ring around 8 times

missed call will show the screen but you want to call back numbers then better write it out first cause DV app history won't show miss call numbers

but you can login your account and check for miss call numbers
