Area code 343 - long distance number

Post by Cruizer3000 »

Hello,

I live in the Ottawa East area (although the postal code may be coded as Gloucester).
I signed up for an account and bought the SIP config and was given a 343 area code phone number.
Using the number making outbound calls seem to be fine. Also calling in using any cellphones (tried 4 difference ones - all 613 numbers) seem to be ok as well.
However calling in from a land line (located 1 block away) a 613 number, first gives the message "You have called a long distance number, please dial 1 before the number next time etc".

Is there any way to check where it is considering my 343 number to be and why it would be considered long distance for a land line that is literally a block away from my house?

Thanks.

To find out why the number isb eing considered long distance, the owner of the landline would need to contact their service provider as we can not set rates for other providers. It is possible it may be a newer exchange and that their provider has not set it up as of yet.

To verify what area a number is in, you could try using: http://www.localcallingguide.com/lca_prefix.php

Hello Mike,

Thanks for the reply. The household has contacted their service provider (Rogers Home Phone). Rogers claims that it has done everything on their side to connect to the number. They say that they are unable to tell which "grid" the number is placed in and that is something that FPL/FONGO needs to set up. They also said its possible the calls could be routed from another city (i.e. Toronto) even though its an Ottawa area code, it will show up as Long Distance in their system.
The area code and first three digits of our number is 343-882

Essentially they are saying there is nothing else they can do and it is up to your side to "fix it". Is this true? If not and it indeed is something that Rogers needs to change, could you let me know what exactly to tell them to change? As we are just kind of caught in the middle...

Thanks.

Strange that is their reply. When we look up 343-882 using the local calling guide, it clearly shows it as an Ottawa number, owned by Fibernetics: http://www.localcallingguide.com/lca_pr ... nextdays=0

This, sadly, really is an issue on Rogers side. They need to look up the actual area and then set their tariffs to reflect the zone it is in.
