Re: Can't hear the caller voice on incoming call
You router is the problem. It does not know where to route the incoming audio. You have to set up the router to direct the correct port to the sip device. What do you have for a modem, router and ATA?

Re: Can't hear the caller voice on incoming call
If you are using a Linksys ATA you may need to use STUN. Choose a stun server
(eg. stun.callwithus.com) and turn on Nat Mapping Enable and Nat Keep Alive. It usually works but not always.

I have this problem also. It occurs intermittently on an undisturbed system, with UPS, which was working fine for weeks. See my note on this topic.

Re: Can't hear the caller voice on incoming call
I am also having the same problem, no incoming caller voice, When I initiate the call though everything works fine.
Any solution to this or is this part of the outage that they were having earlier this week, with ATA disconnecting often.
Please help with a fix.
Thank you

It seems I have found the problem. I have opened ports 5060,5061, 13000 and 13001 as UDP in my router and now everything is working.

Re: Can't hear the caller voice on incoming call
I dont think it's the firewall ports. Sometimes the calls are coming in ok, sometime they are not. If it was the firewall it would never work.
It worked well for one week, then today it did it again. The person called back and it worked this time....weird.

Re: Can't hear the caller voice on incoming call
I am afraid that you are probably wrong ...... what you are finding is what you would expect when the ports are not forwarded or are forwarded incorrectly. Check your port forwarding and the corresponding configuration of the ATA.khisanth wrote:I dont think it's the firewall ports. Sometimes the calls are coming in ok, sometime they are not. Re: Can't hear the caller voice on incoming call
I am having the same problem for the last 2 weeks (of 2012).
Caller can hear me, I can't hear them.
SOMETIMES it works, sometimes not,
sometimes it works when the caller calls back 2nd time, but not always.
CAN SOMEONE FROM Fongo SUPPORT answer the cause of this??
I have posted several solutions on this board, it seems to have worked
after changing some flags on the Grandstrean Config, but then a day
or two later the problem is still threre.
HELP PLS !!!

Re: Can't hear the caller voice on incoming call
What do you have for a router? I know my answer is inconvenient, but Fongo cannot fix problems that are on your end, and the one way audio problem is 100% on your end. I promise you, Fongo is sending incoming packets to your router. The problem is, your router does not know where to direct the packets, and that is a problem that needs to be fixed on your end. You may need to configure, update or even replace your current router, because it currently does not look like it is up to the job in routing RTP packets to the correct destination.

Re: Can't hear the caller voice on incoming call
I have to agree with bridonca. Virtually all of the problems that I have been seeing recently are due to total lack of configuration of router and ATA, partial configuration or incorrect configuration. Users here seem to be very reluctant to give information about the device configuration that they have done and even the ISP/router/ATA types (etc.). This makes providing useful help very difficult. If you appreciate how SIP/voip works it is fairly easy to figure out how your mode/router/ATA needs to be configured. Some routers seem to fight back and make SIP/voip very difficult to run successfully at all!

Re: Can't hear the caller voice on incoming call
Well if your VOIP ATA device worked for years and what happened about 4 or 5 days ago to Fongo or Freephoneline caused incoming call problem. Now some users still have the problem then it's Fongo's server still causes the problem not your VOIP ATA device
Just hang around like forward call to cellphone at this moment until they fix the problem
For me I did not have a problem with incoming call or outgoing call after they fixed on Dec/25/2012

Re: Can't hear the caller voice on incoming call
At first sight this may be the case and not knowing when/what work Fongo might be doing on the servers does not help. Having a set up that has worked for a long time and then starts giving problems is far from rare and the problem is usually at the users end (but not always), All it takes is for something to be changed such as the external IP, the router, a new device added to the network, upgrading software on an attached PC, a power failure etc. Fongo could buy extra equipment to run with their servers to aid in NAT negotiation etc. but it is expensive so the user is probably going to have to do some configuration.seagame2001 wrote:Well if your VOIP ATA device worked for years and what happened about 4 or 5 days ago to Fongo or Freephoneline caused incoming call problem. Re: Can't hear the caller voice on incoming call
I have the opposite problem. I can hear people who call me just fine, however, they tell me I'm cutting in and out and they keep saying "hello?" "hello?" as they can't hear my replies. Sometimes they just hang up as they get fed up. I'm a senior so this FPL is good for me but if the caller can't hear me or hears me in breakup mode what good is it? Please don't give me tech jargon because I wouldn't have a clue what you are talking about...lol.
Thank you
Thank you

Re: Can't hear the caller voice on incoming call
Check your internet speed. Perhaps you have a poor (low) upload speed or others are using your network.(http://www.speedtest.net/).

Thank you. I did the test and the upload speed is .26mb...whatever that means..lol
Nobody else uses my network.

Re: Can't hear the caller voice on incoming call
Your outgoing voice packets go in the upload and ).26 mbits is on the slow side but should be enough if the network is doing nothing else and is is stable at the time of the call. I you send an email or upload some picture this will certainly mess up your phone call. Make sure that you network is not busy in some way or sending packets periodically eg. a webcam or weather station. Try making a call with everything on your network disconnected except your ATA (voip box).loopygram wrote:Thank you. I did the test and the upload speed is .26mb...whatever that means..lol

Re: Can't hear the caller voice on incoming call
Ok I will try that. The only thing it might be doing is downloading email that I can see. I will try making a call while the computer is in hibernation and see if its ok then. Thanks so much for you help.

Re: Can't hear the caller voice on incoming call
vladshab13, does "opening" ports on your router mean the same thing as "forwarding" ports from router to a fixed IP?
bridonca, dibsmft, thank you for your comments.
I am not reluctant to share my setup, I will post screen shots if you need to.
i am not extremely technical when it comes to routers, but i am ok.
I am not looking for exact solution, but rather for tips to troubleshoot and/or how to narrow down what is causing the problem.
for example just today i called my home number from my cell phone and the phone call was OK, an hour later i called from the same phone and the person picking up could not hear me. so the problem appears to be random or sporadic.
this is my understanding of the router, please correct me if i am wrong.
#1) from what i understand (i will use layman's terms) the router assigns random? ip addresses to devices on the network, so if i have 2 laptops, a desktop and a smart tv and a voip phone, they each have an ip address, but it is not guaranteed it will be a fixed ip. (although for the last 2 weeks my ATA has the same IP always). so my #1 step in my router configuration is to hard-fix the IP for the ATA device. right? now how do i do that on my router?
SOL'N: There is a page under SETUP | Network Settings it lists number of DHCP clients (my network devices) and next to each is a button: Reserve, which reserves an IP address to a MAC address. Will this do the trick? So I can do this for my ATA device.
#2) once my ATA has a fixed IP addres, i need to 'open' or 'forward' certain ports to it. right? this will ensure that when there is data on these ports, it will be sent to my ATA, because that's the voice data. am I getting this right? now how do I do that on my router?
SOL'N: There is a section in Advanced | Port Forwarding. Is this right, or should I be looking for somehting else on my router settings?
#3) my question is whether I need to use a STUN server in my Grandstream setup? Currently I don't have it setup.
My router is DLink 601. I already upgraded my firmware on it.
Is there ANOTHER router that I can buy that is more mainstream and handles VoiP better? What is your suggestion?
thanks for your help.
