No ability to send / receive calls - Thomson DCM476 modem
Hi all (and happy holidays),
Hoping someone can give me a hand on Christmas Eve.
I recently moved form Rogers to Teksavvy for Cable internet. Since moving I had intermittent problems using my home phone (more down than up, but it did work a bit). I called today and the darling technician had me do a reset on my Linksys Pap2 phone device. Voila everyihtng wiped out.
Fortunately, I had some screen shots of the old set up. I used them as best I could, but I still now have no use of my phone.
I can get a dial tone, and can even make a call. The person on the other end has their phone ring. But I cannot hear a ring, and no voices. If I look at the Linksys Pap 2 all calls get recorded, just nothing happens. And anyone that calls my line, it rings twice then goes to a fast busy signal.
I called FPL tech support again, and was told to have Teksavvy open port 5060 on my Thomson DCM476 modem. I called them and they insist no ports are blocked on the modem. Port 5060, 5061, 5062 are open on my Linksys router. This all started once Teksavvy's modem came in but they are steadfast that their modem is not the issue.
Of course now FPL is closed and I have no home phone for Chirstmas!
Help?

Teksavvy is correct, nat/firewall does not exist on that modem. The problem appears to be with your router. Check to ensure that you have also forwarded the RTP ports, typically UDP 16384 to 16482 to your device.

Re: No ability to send / receive calls - Thomson DCM476 mode
1. Give your PAP2 a static IP address (your need to set it up on your router and on the ATA}.
2. Forward port 5061 and 5062 UDP from the router to the PAP2, set line 1 of the PAP2 to port 5061 for the sip port and line 2 of the PAP2 to port 5062 for its sip port. Leave the default external port as 5060 if there is an option on the PAP2)
3. Forward a the other ports that FPL specifies to the PAP2 from the router to the PAP2 and set the port range on the PAP2.
4. Put your username and password into line 1 for your FPL account.
5. Power down the router and the PAP2. Wait 5 minutes, then, power up the router and when it is connected power up the PAP2.
6. The PAP2 should connect so try calls.
If you get one-way-sound or no incoming sound then try running STUN, NAT Keep ALive and NAT Mapping Enable.

Re: No ability to send / receive calls - Thomson DCM476 mode
Thanks for the advice guys, I will go try that now.
I should have mentioned; I have been operating for 2 1/2 years, and only since switching has it started acting weird. Of course, once I did a full reset on my PAP2 device, has it stopped completely.
And what / where is STUN?

Re: No ability to send / receive calls - Thomson DCM476 mode
I've tried everything listed and it is still the same.
One thing just came to mind. My internal IP on my new modem is 192.168.100.1, but my internal network address (on my router) is different. Do I need to change my internal home network numbering to match the modem?
Internet and everyhitng else seems to be fine, but would this be messing up my phone?

Try placing the ATA in DMZ in the router

Re: No ability to send / receive calls - Thomson DCM476 mode
That is the routers internal address. Your ATA would be expected to have whatever IP you have assigned it via the router (eg. 192.168.100.25) depending on how you have set the DHCP range on your router. Setting DMZ might work but it is not a good choice if you have other devices on the network. Did you change your router when you changed providers?marksy wrote:I've tried everything listed and it is still the same.

Re: No ability to send / receive calls - Thomson DCM476 mode
awan I tried that and it did not work.
dibsmft, that IP is the IP of my modem, not my router. As I said, Internet and everyhitng else is working fine, just not my phone.
My router is a Linksys WRT 54G that has been flashed with dd-wrt firmware. It has not changed since moving to Teksavvy.
I appreciate all the suggestions, but so far, nothing seems to have worked.
Does anyone have the settings for a Linksys PaP2? I might post my screen shots in a bit to see if anyone can see what is causing the problem.
Also, what is STUN? I've run for 2 1/2 years and have never heard of or required STUN.
TIA

I like we can talk over phone and help, I am in Toronto, just a user like you and know networking and routers
here is the xml setting link that has worked for me on SPA2100 and linksys 3102 from this forum, all you have to do is add your user id and password
http://forum.fongo.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=1243
do you have another router lying around, try testing with that.

Re: No ability to send / receive calls - Thomson DCM476 mode
It might be best if you call awan for help as I will not be around for a while but it does look as if you need to go back a properly configure your system. STUN should get the external address (that you need) and replace the 192.168.100.1 address that it is getting at present with it and things may work. I am also just a user but have been around a while (72 yrs).

Also enable port triggering or port forwarding for 13000 and 13001 & 5060- 5080 ports. The DD-WRT is a more powerfull firewall. I am assuming that there has been some changes on the provider side that is why suddenly we (who were doing fine) have now disruptions.
I am using a range on the SIP port 5060 as I use soft phone also as well as send line is now ported to fpl.

No I don't have another router, but as I said, everything else is working fine.
I tried the provisioning file and it is doing the exact same thing. Call out, I get a dial tone but cannot hear any ringing and no voices (although the other party does get a ring and can hear me). Calls in wait about 30 seconds and go to voice mail,. or ring twice and then a very fast busy signal......man this is getting frustrating.
So is there anyone (maybe from FPL) that can tell me if some things have changed? I read a lot of posts on here and have noticed many others commenting that their service either stopped or started acting up the same time that mine did. Of course if I could go back, I'd not have done a complete reset on my ATA.
I know this is a free service, and please understand I am ranting, but the level 1 technician that told me to reset my ATA really messed me up. My mistake for listeneing and doing as he said. But at least prior to that, I had intermittenet service. Since yesterday around 3pm I've had zero service. And I have a really hard time thinking something on my router needs to change, unless FPL has made a change requiring me to.

Re: No ability to send / receive calls - Thomson DCM476 mode
IT is not the ATA, do not do any thing with the PAP2.
Just do the port range forwarding or Port range triggering as I mentioned for 13000 and 13001 and 5060 in your ddwrt router. This resolved my issue where I had similar problems.

This was done long ago, and I just confirmed it is all still set that way. Still the same issues......here is the latest:
If I call out to an external number or cell, from either of my 2 FPL numbers, the other end rings but no ringing or voices on my end
If I call one line from the other, no ringing on either phone, nothing for 30 seconds then voice mail picks up (and the call is recorded in my PAP 2)
If I call either FPL number from another line (or cell) it rings twice then a fst busy signal.

Re: No ability to send / receive calls - Thomson DCM476 mode
in simple and short the router is not allowing the inward traffic. the pap2 does not record , the FPL voice mail service picks up.
Start enabling one number in the PAP2 and see if this get's registered and can make and receive calls, once done, then write back the results, then I will guide you for the second line.
It is definitely the router.

I did just that (enabling only one line) and nothing changes.
Can you Skype or can I PM you? I can send you some screen shots of my router and maybe you can see something in there causing the issue. Although as I said, my router worked without issue until December 20th (same day I switched to Teksavvy) and still continues to function for my computers.

Re: No ability to send / receive calls - Thomson DCM476 mode
I suspect that you need to go back to the beginning and reconfigure your router and ATA as it should work OK. The PAP2 is quite fussy about its configuration so one option would be to try it with a basic SIP provider that offers a free account such a antisip.com, ekiga.net, getonsip.com or ideasip.com all have worked on both my Linksys SP3102 which is similar in some respects to the PAP2.

Re: No ability to send / receive calls - Thomson DCM476 mode
Thanks for the suggestions dibsmft but I'm at my wits end.
"NOTHING CHANGED" on my router or my ATA until the technician told me to do a hard reset of the ATA. The only thing that has been affected on my router has been trying to open all of the various ports and ports ranges. Right now I have these ports open (all UDP only):
5060 - 5062
6060 - 6061
10000 - 20000
These have all been recommended from other posts I've read in this forum.
I really hope it is something stupid when this is all said and done because right now I'm ready to smash my head off a brick wall! I now know what those customers feel like, when I get Teksavvy telling me it is FPL, and I get FPL telling me that Teksavvy hasto open up a port on the modem.
REALLY, REALLY FRUSTRATING.

I don't own a PAP2 so I have only configure router/pap2 over the internet.. You could post your router an PAP2 configuration or email me the configuration.
Sent you a pm.

also do this. download and install the FPL software on your computer and see if you can use it to make and receive calls.

Can't send / receive calls - Thomson DCM476 modem **RESOLVED
Thanks to browsing these forums I've resolved the issue.
Gershe, I do not know you but you saved my mental state of mind. I read this post thread - http://forum.fongo.com/viewtopic.php?f= ... 4&start=25 and noticed where you state to do the following:
For those using PAP2 adapter:
Goto: Line 1 tab and make sure following settings are set as follows:
NAT Mapping Enable: YES NAT Keep Alive Enable: YES
NAT Keep Alive Msg: $NOTIFY NAT Keep Alive Dest: $PROXY
Goto: SIP Tab (bottom):
Handle VIA received: YES Handle VIA rport: YES
Insert VIA received: YES Insert VIA rport: YES
Let me know if it helps please.
I changed these settings and both of my lines now are able to send and receive phone calls. Ironically they cannot call each other (ringing but no voices), but I am not sure that will ever be an issue.
For all the PM`d me and offered suggestions here, thank you very much!

Re: No ability to send / receive calls - Thomson DCM476 mode
i had an old spa 2100 kicking around. the post by marksy on 12/28/2012 helped solve the same problem i had. my pap2t is working fine but this spa 2100 unit was for my brother. thanks again all for the helpful info
