long wait before dailing out

Post by dana_aki »

Hello,
There is no issues with my line and as soon as i pickup i can hear the dial tone, however after hitting the 7 digit number there is a wait of about 15 seconds before i can actually hear the dialing tone.

Any ideas ?

it will probably be your dial string. Can you post what you have right now?

Usually if you press the # key after the number it will dial straight out as well.

You can put "dial at once" in the dial plan or set the wait time before dialing to a lower value in the ATA set up. As already mentioned, depending on the ATA configuration hitting the number(#) key should also send the dialed number at once and that is what I normally do (I like to have time to see what I have dialed before it gets sent!).

Do you know where I would put the "Dial at Once" in the plan ? Here is my exact Dial - (911|[2-9]xxxxxxxxx|1xxxxxxxxxx|011xxxxxxxxxxxx.|98*|[6-7]x*xxxxxxxxxxx.)

To be honest, I am surprised just dialing 7 digits connects to anything. Usually you need the full 10 digits dialled for FPL to work.

This dial string should allow you to dial 7 digits though, and then there should be no delay. What is happening now is the dialled numbers do not match any part of the dial string so it is just timing out and sending what you have dialled.

(911|<:NPA>[2-9]xxxxxx|[2-9]xxxxxxxxx|1xxxxxxxxxx|011xxxxxxxxxxxx.|98*|[6-7]x*xxxxxxxxxxx.)

Replace the NPA bit with your area code (eg <:613>[2-9]xxxxxxx)

What this should do is when you dial 7 digits and pause, it will add NPA to the dialled numbers and make the call. If you dial more than 7 numbers without pausing it will try and match one of the other dial patterns.

I'm still surprised that you can dial just 7 digits now and get through. There could be something else in play here (maybe your phone?). Anyway, try this dial string and see if it works. If it doesn't, just change it back :D

:D Well that would explain why you can only dial 7 digits.

If you are dialling the full 10 digits, then you shouldn't get a delay, but try this dial string

(911|[2-9]xxxxxxxxxS0|1xxxxxxxxxx|011xxxxxxxxxxxx.|98*|[6-7]x*xxxxxxxxxxx.)

The S0 (zero not O or o) should make the number dial straight out. This might help, but you really shouldn't be getting a delay anyway.

Another thing to check is on your Regional Tab (logged in as admin and in advance view) Look for the Control Timer Values (sec) section and check Interdigit Long Timer: and Interdigit Short Timer: values
I have mine set at 10 for long and 3 for short. An dirty fix for you will be to change the long value to something lower, but that won't really fix your problem.

Have a play with the dial string and those settings and see if anything helps.
