FPL and Alarm

Post by Avster »

Hello
I just ported my number to FPL and wired my ATA straight to the wall jack to get phone access to whole the jacks in the home. I noticed that my alarm stop[ed working. I called my monitoring company and sure enough there was no communication between the unit and the center even though there is a live phone tone to the alarm panel. They mentioned FPL does not support alarm protocols. Does anyone know if this is correct?

You should have talked to alarm company, or search Google before making decision, as no alarm company as I know of will support over VoIP phone. FPL is not excemtion to it. Simply, every alarm company will tell you "VoIP not supported".

Therefore, if you have 3G as fail over solution with your current alarm system, you're OK, Otherwise, you have to switch system alarm to 3G as primary and the only way of communication with alarm company server and no more regular phone line.

This is how I have with Alarm Force and I had asked other alarm companies and they do the same.

Hope this helps.

Hi I just want to ask when you wired your ATA straight to the wall jack to get phone access to the whole jacks in your house, do you get incoming call rings on your phone?
