App hangs during callls - RESOLVED

Post by Redpoint »

I've searched the forums and haven't found an answer for this issue yet.

When I try to access voicemail from my mobile (via direct dial out or voicemail icon), the screen goes blank and the o/s is basically in a hung state (pushing any button does nothing). I then hear the voicemail options. The options repeat a second time. The screen is still blank and since I cannot do anything, the system hangs up on me. About 2-5 seconds later the dialpad is displayed, but the phone is still frozen for another 5 or so seconds. Then the dailpad goes away and I'm back to the main screen.

Sometimes before the dialpad is displayed, or before it goes away, I'm prompted with an 'application not responding' pop-up. If I select 'wait', the application recovers to the main app screen. This is all repeatable every time. I've tried re-booting the phone several times, same issue. Same results with wifi or data.

Also tried going back to an older version of Dell Voice (1.4) with the same results.

Desktop application will not accept keyboard or application keypad input while on a call, so it is useless for retrieving voicemail.

On a regular phone call the same thing happens and no input (voice or otherwise) is possible from my side for about 30 seconds. This wasn't the case just a few weeks ago. Not sure if something has changed on your end, but my V1.4 app has always worked OK.

Hi,

I actually have the same phone as you. I think you are getting this lag/delay because of the phone's weak internal hardware. Our phone is now on one of the weakest unfortunately and it is almost impossible to get rid of this lag. It is possible however, to reduce this hardware lag. I suggest you flash a newer rom (if you are semi-familiar with cell phones). I'm using this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthr ... ?t=2034281 -- and the lag I able to cope with the 1-2 second delay.

I am by no means a professional with this stuff, but I see potential with Fongo and I hope the next update (which is hopefully soon, according to their recent announcement) will fix all the problems which almost made stop using this currently mediocre service.

Worth a shot. I've tried two other CM ROMs (JB and ICS) and VOIP apps don't work on either - it's a known issue. I'll try it this weekend and report back.

Odd though that this worked fine on the same phone just a couple of weeks ago.

Well, don't I feel like a horse's hindquarters. Turns out it was a Battery Saver app. I had installed it a year ago, but not really used it much. I turned it on a couple of weeks ago (a few days before I next used the DV app) because I was having battery draining issues during the night. The program is excellent for that btw, battery life is stellar now.

Turned off the program and tried a call from Costa Rica to Canada. Worked perfectly. About a 3-5 second delay before seeing the dialpad, but that's completely acceptable to me.

However, there is still one issue that I don't know will be remedied. After the call, IF the other person hangs up first, the screen goes black and doesn't come back for about 30 seconds. The app then recognizes that there is no longer a connection and hangs up on my end. At that time the screen reappears. The app is still completely usable though, so I'm satisfied for now.
