Calls going straight to voice mail. Troubles since December

Post by yyzALEX »

I am really getting fed up with this service. I enrolled in October, ported my 416-534- number and since December have had nothing but aggravation. Family and friends are bugging me to go back to a land line on account of all the missed calls or line unavailability.

I see very poor support from Fongo on the troubles their customers are posting on this site even though they are very keen on moderating submissions. How about posting detailed releases on the cause of the troubles, people affected and efforts implemented to fix them? Today again, for the umpteenth day all calls go to voice mail without ringing but thankfully today I still have a dial tone. This service is really substandard with no solutions in sight.

Log in to freephoneline.ca (link below) and then click on Settings. Click on the Follow Me Settings tab and under Options make sure Status it is set to Disable and then click Submit. Then click the Voicemail Settings tab. Where it says Rings Before Voicemail, make sure it is set to 5 and then click Update. Let us know if that solved the issue. By the way, freephoneline does not offer technical support because their service is free. If they offered technical support then they would have to charge us a monthly fee so they could pay their staff. I know it's very frustrating when issues arise but we have to rely on the forums and internet searches to help resolve issues that aren't caused by anything on freephoneline's end. I would also suggest going into your Voicemail Settings again and enter your email address in the Voicemail Call Forwarding Email section. Set Voicemail to Email to either Copy or Forward and then click Submit. This way, whenever you get a voicemail it will be forwarded to your email address right away so you know someone just called in case your phone still isn't ringing.

Thanks for your reply BillCanada.

I did not have followme settings on although just before I read your posting I added my cell to ring when service is unavailable.

I already had voicemail set to copy after 5 rings.

No one is asking for free individual tech support. The troubles are universal on this service since December so it's on
FPL'S END THAT THE TROUBLES EXIST. As far as I know Anonymous didn't hack all our accounts and somehow manage
to misconfigure our individual ATA's to cause the problems with a lack of service altogether(no dial tone or registration)
or partial service(cannot reach destination, cannot receive calls or calls not ringing and,if lucky, going to voicemail.

Same issue here... I don't receive incoming calls for the last 10 days. Initially, I thought my ATA problem. I have reconfigured it and still the same issue. Sometimes the phone rings and majority of time is not and goes straight to the VM.

Exactly. I see nothing......like a good little ostrich....meanwhile, network troubles escalate.
Today, it is taking over 30 seconds for calls to connect and I had no dial tone and had to reboot the ATA.

I have been having this same issue since the beginning of February.

There must be an issue with the Follow Me settings in the FPL network end.

If I diasable follow me and update the changes, it goes straight to voicemail.

If follow me is enabled, it will go straight through to the follow me number set.

I can make outgoing calls, but cannot receive any.

I power cycled Modem and Adapter, nothing helps!!

FPL.... PLEASE HELP !!

Try this:
check you papt 2 settings - under your line 1 tab (if line one is what you are using)
If you are not using a papt 2 check your ata to find similar settings
make sure your

Cfwd All Dest: Cfwd Busy Dest:
Cfwd No Ans Dest: Cfwd No Ans Delay:
Selective Call Forward Settings

make sure all are BLANK

I have had a strange issue where on occasion a number will appear in one of these boxes at random - i believe it is an automated hack of some sort - and that will screw things up - you may be able to call out but not receive calls, or you may get a busy signal when trying to call out. Your incoming calls may go straight to voicemail. Clearing out the numbers solves it.

I did have my papt 2 in the "demilitarized zone" but have since taken it out - and set up the passwords for user and admin.

Anyone with a papt2 should check this area. Please consider password protection and taking you ATA OUT OF THE DEMILITERIZED ZONE if you have it in there.

Also, if you are having troubles I suggest imputing the DNS #'s and using a static ip address. Set this up in the system tab. You can use the DNS #s provided by your internet provider - or use public DNS #s. Doing this solved my papt2 re connection issues (actually not mine but my Dad who also has FPL). Tekksavy is his provider and he uses a Wrt54g router . Teksavvy (East) DNS #s are 206.248.154.22 and 206.248.154.170

For the record FPL has worked very well for me and for my dad. Many issues can often be traced back to settings on the users end. There are automated hacks that can change your ata settings without your knowledge so be vigilant in security.

Hope that helps.
John
