Weirdness on 800 call
I was given a number to call for Chase Paymentech by my Bank: 1-800-265-5758 which I must have written down wrong (should have been 5158). So I call it on the FPL line and I get this message, "Exciting local people want to talk to you right now, call this number, 1-800-313-2300 ....".
So I try to call it (1-800-265-5758) from my Landline on Telus, and I get the more standard announcement saying "your call cannot be completed".
So do calls that cannot get completed on the FPL system get re-routed to some sort of telemarketing system for some reason, or are they somehow exploiting the system by finding a loophole perhaps?
ANyway though I should let you know in case it's significant, in the meantime I did get Chase by dialing the correct number.

Re: Weirdness on 800 call
No, we do not re-route any calls.
What's the date/time of your call that got re-routed? I will check the logs, this might be a carrier issue we need to get addressed, and I would like to look into it further.

Re: Weirdness on 800 call
Thanks Steve,
This is the call log (looks to me like the times are CST), and you will note it does not give a carrier:
1587883xxxx 18002655758 0:11 2010-03-02 14:53:34.0 2010-03-02 14:53:45.0
1587883xxxx 18002655758 0:07 2010-03-02 14:59:10.0 2010-03-02 14:59:17.0
What I would suggest is you try to call 18002655758 yourself and see if you duplicate it.
The main reason I found it potentially significant was the fact that it seems like someone or something is managing to route calls however could it be more the case that perhaps for some reason the Telus line simply refused to connect to that number and FPL just does connect, so in fact there is nothing wrong at all. However it does make for an interesting question as to why then Telus would not connect to that number, could it be they block certain numers that they know are scammers, or is there some other technical reason why Telus cannot connect to some 1-800 numbers and FPL can? Or could it be that 18002655758 is somehow redirecting you to a 900 number or something?
Anyway because where there smoke there may be fire, I thought it would be worthwhile to bring it to your attention in case someone is trying to exploit FPL and its customers.
Thanks Steve,

Re: Weirdness on 800 call
Thanks for the info - I've found what I needed on our end for each call. Will take a skim over it tomorrow and see if anything looks out of place on our end.TSellers wrote:Thanks Steve,

Thanks Steve,
I blanked out the last four digits of your phone number in your original post, in respect for your privacy.

Re: Weirdness on 800 call
Thanks Steve,
I thought about blanking it out, but in the end I thought as I am porting my landline anyway, which is already on all our websites anyhow, but thatnks for looking out!
I would have called and seen which 'interesting local people' wanted to meet me, but my G'friend would not approve!

More than you think.TSellers wrote:I would have called and seen which 'interesting local people' wanted to meet me, but my G'friend would not approve!
One of our employee's numbers was accidentally on here, VERY blurry, in a device configuration guide. He lost count of the amount of daily calls he got from people!

Re: Weirdness on 800 call
Holy crap!
I guess you must have got to it in time then as so far I haven't had any calls, just my normal lonely working day where no-one wants to talk to me (especially my teenage kids) and this forum is my only social life!
Thanks for doing that, others can make note and learn from my mistake, I'm kind of glad I'm porting my landline over anyway, just in case.
BTW, if you enable it, if you dial *60 on the PAP2T, does that allow you to block the last caller?

Re: Weirdness on 800 call
Right now there is a blacklist option on the software phone which I am working on moving to the user admin page so you won't need to open it in the software phone every time you want to block a caller.

Re: Weirdness on 800 call
THat would be great, will look forward to that. You must be a busy man.
However it still appears to me as though the PAP2T may also have that funcion embedded in it?

It does, but our servers will override most of the devices native settings - Some will still work though.
