One Way Audio

Post by sevoflurane »

Dear support team,

I have recently ported a rogers landline over to FPL, bought the SIP credentials and setup the line on a Cisco SPA-112 router running behind an Airport Extreme. I am able to make and receive calls, although there is only one way audio (I am unable to hear the other party, but others can hear me). This problem does NOT occur while talking with another fongo customer. I also temporarily disabled another FPL SIP line from another location, replaced the current credentials, and two way audio works for all numbers. It's looking like a configuration issue on the FPL side - could you let me know what I should do next?

Many thanks!

Hello there,

One way audio is caused by RTP ports that are closed in your router/network.

Please check what RTP ports are required in your SPA112 and have them opened.
Also, if your router has options for SIP ALG, SIP Helper, you should disable them.

Thanks,

Thanks for your quick reply - I think that my network setup is unlikely to be the issue since if I call from my iPhone's dell voice/fongo app, there is two way audio. In addition, I replaced the ported username/password with another native FPL number's username and password, and two way voice works.

For further testing, I also input the ported number's credentials on another ATA at another house, and the same one-way voice issue is occuring, but only with that number.

I have the same problem.

I have two freephoneline lines, one is working ok two way audio (inbound & outbound) and the other one only outbound.

The thing that is strange is that I keep the same settings for both, I only change the userId and password.

Can someone explain me how it could happend? Is the problem on my side or on freephoneline side?

As additional info it's started 2-3 days ago only, before that both line were working ok.

I didn't changes nothing on my Sipura SPA-2002 and on my router Buffalo buffalo wzr-hp-ag300h

Thanks

I was just wondering whether you had luck resolving the issue?

More troubleshooting done on my part:
Line 1 and Line 2 on a Cisco/Linksys ATA setup with two different FPL numbers 555-5555 and 666-6666 as an example. 555-5555 is a ported number, and does not have incoming audio; outgoing audio is present in all calls. Number 2 (666-6666) is an original signed-up FPL number, works perfectly with bi-directional audio. SWAPPING the two credentials ONLY, keeping all the other settings the same on the ATA's "line 1 and 2", the one-way outgoing audio problem remains with the 555-5555 number on "Line 2". "Line 1" with the new credential works perfectly.

Now interestingly, regardless which line number 1 (555-5555) is attached to, there is BI-DIRECTIONAL audio when calling from another fongo number, just no incoming audio when speaking with other carriers (i.e. cell phone). Again, with all settings the same, there is reproducible one-way audio when talking on the 555-5555 line to any external numbers, but bi-directional audio when talking to any fongo phones.

Finally, this 555-5555 number was tested on another known-working ATA at a completely different location and has the same issue, where an FPL number was working fine for years previously.

PS Putting the ATA on the internet modem bypassing the router completely still has the same issue, so it doesn't seem to be a packet inspection issue, port forwarding, etc.

I'm going to send this in as a support ticket as well, but I was hoping other members of the community may have some idea for what may need to be changed to fix this issue. I can PM the line details to any mods who can assist also.

Thanks!! :D

Having the same problem regarding no incoming audio, and it sounds like a good number of others are as well. Just to muddy the waters further, mine is with an original non ported FPL number... Hopefully there is some resolution soon, while there are some folks I'd rather not talk to, some I need to :D

Hello there,

Chris fixed his issue by changing a setting in his Bell modem. Not sure about your setup, but you should try to see why your setup blocks RTP ports. One of your previous posts indicated that you have tried with "multiple routers". Perhaps that is the issue.
If you require additional assistance, please send a PM to any of the mods(including myself) and they should be able to help.

Thanks,

Hello there,

No changes were done from our end. Since you have 2 accounts with FPL and one is working with no issues, please try to verify one more time your settings, and if it's still not working, feel free to send a PM to any of the Mods with your setup details and they should be able to help.

Thanks,

Something has definitely happened.

Without my changing anything, incoming calls on my two lines stopped working and are going directly to voicemail (I keep them registered to sipsorcery.com).
I tried to use them directly through my Obi202, same results.
Something must have changed.

Hello there,

Please double check the settings one more time and ensure that you are following FPL standards:

If that has been verified, please send a PM to any of our Mods and they should be able to assist you.

Disappointed about the service. Can't use the service. It happened in the past 3 days. First showing "no connection to the server", inbound calls go directly to voicemail. Then downloaded the new app, new problem with the "one way audio", the other side can hear me but I can't hear him.

There is no change from my side. Must have something to do with the Fongo's new change to the new app, etc. Hope Fongo can realize the problem and solve it asap, otherwise have to cancel the service. :(

Once again, something must have been changed on FPL end.

I am surprised so many people are reporting the same problem, yet all CS does is remind them they have to double check their configuration although they did not change anything lately.

Please make sure you get the things work as they used to.
I have my own three lines and a few more friends whom I persuaded to buy your service.
Now I feel uncomfortable about giving them such an advice.

I am having the very same issue. Since 2 days I have one-way audio - other person cannot hear me ....problem is exactly as described by other users.
I have been using freephoneline for years now and the initial problem also as reported by other users was call going straight to voicemail.
Now this problem. It seems the support people here either do not know what is happening or choose to ignore registered users.
Please do not tell me to check my settings as I see in almost every reply you send!
You have a problem on your end - please fix it!

I can only imagine how many messages CS will get from upset customers who are not very tech savvy and have no idea what they have to do to fix the problem.

Is it so difficult for FPL to email all their customers letting them know there was a change ?
They just got something they could easily have avoided.

Re: one-way communication(in/outgoing calls) #8871

Post by stoylesa »

Hi,
I'm having the same issue. I answer an incoming call...they can hear me but I can't hear them. I'm using FPL software have not set up the ATA...Linksys router...I put the machine I'm using in a DMZ to test firewall issues....doesn't fix the problem. It was working for a couple of weeks no problems. On my router I don't see Enable/Disable SIP but Enable/Disable SPI....which I disabled...bo difference.

My provider is TechSavvy.

Any suggestions on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

As others, I finally, I found the error in my case and I am able to reproduce the error

One of my two lines works ONLY on SIP server voip2.freephoneline.com and the other line works on both SIP server.

So I think now it is a question for the technical support people to tell us why this is happening? And how they will patch/fix the bug because it should work on both SIP Server

today, I had the same problem, other people ( no matter they call me or I call them) can not hear my voice, I am in Montreal.

switch to voip2.freephoneline.ca solve the problem, but don't know how long it can last ,

suddenly some many users have the same problem, I believe most of them not change any setting on their ATA, so FPL server side must have a problem , this problem happen twice in the past 3 weeks, - please fix it!

call between two FPL user seems good

Is it possible to change to voip2.freephoneline.ca on the desktop version? Or is this fix only for people using other SIP apps/hardware?
