My phones were working fine, then I installed the softphone on one of my laptops and used it to make a call, now all my incoming calls are going to my softphone and my home phones/ATA do not get the calls. Even after I logout and shut down the softphone application incoming callers just get dead air and eventually a fast busy. According to my ATA the registration state is online.
Outgoing calls are still working. Any ideas why this is happening.
Thanks All

Re: incoming calls not working.
You can only have either the ATA or softphone registered at a time. You can't have both.
What has happened is the softphone registered and stole the registration away from your ATA. Now the system thinks you are using the softphopne, but I assume that is now turned off so it has no idea where to send your calls.
To fix this you need to get the ATA to re-register. This will happen naturally (your ATA should say when the next registration is) in time, but to speed this up power down the ATA for a good 20 seconds, then power it back up. This should make the ATA register and everything should be back to how it was.

Re: incoming calls not working.
Thanks Jake, I did reboot the ATA and it did resolve the issue I just wanted to find out why this happened. Any idea why outgoing calls still worked if the ATA was not registered?

Yes, that is because the ATA knows where the SIP server is for outgoing calls as it is always at voip.freephoneline.ca (or voip2). This is why you could make outgoing calls as the ATA knew where to route the call even if it wasn't registered.qdi40 wrote:Thanks Jake, I did reboot the ATA and it did resolve the issue I just wanted to find out why this happened. The SIP server however did not have a clue where your ATA was to send calls to when it lost registration. It was still looking for your softphone which is what it thought you were using now. Because it didn't find you the sip server just gave up. Some (all?) would say that the SIP server should then send your call to voicemail, but it doesn't - it just gives up.
