Softphone No Audio Fix...Kind of
I have finally figured out the Softphone issue for no audio out. You actually need to change your hosts file to [ip of voip2] voip.freephoneline.ca. There seems to be an overload issue on the real voip server. You don't need any port forward for the softphone to work despite numerous posts suggested. The new version of the softphone has issue with the mic audio route. It is getting it from the computer audio instead of the microphone device. Try to play some youtube video, the other side of the party will hear it. I need to figure out how to re-route the mic audio to softphone which Win 8 is not that straight forward to me.

thinking about it, i don't think i can re-route the audio in a normal phone like conversation way. The mic will have to route to speaker, meaning it will hear my own talking in the ears. That is clearly a bug in the new softphone. Fongo/Freephoneline development team needs to fix that little java program. It is too hard to poke into it. It is all obscured inside using some obfuscator tool.

Good News! I have fixed the mic routing problem.
Here are the fixes:
Run Notepad as Admin -> Open c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
Add xxxxxxxxxxx voip.freephoneline.ca
Then
Goto Recording Devices ->Right Click on the Mic and Set as default.
No Port forwarding needed! Forget those ports. Softphone is using port 80 and 443 full time if you look at the process open port under windows.
Viola!

Re: Softphone No Audio Fix...Kind of
Just a comment that I hope would help someone: I've noticed that as of March 25th or 26th (perhpas earlier) the mic somehow gets turned off ('by itself') when I try to make a call... If using Windows, check the volume control, mine gets a checkmark, in Mute (under Microphone), as soon as I place a call... [this happens only after making a call in FPL]... This obviously means that there would be no audio out... HOWEVER, it's hard to tell because audio-in still remains a problem for me... can't hear the other side... Also, seems I can only make ONE call...can't make other calls (other than voicemail...) STRANGE!

Did you change your hosts file? I find that the original voip.freephoneline.ca connection is flaky.

Thank you SO MUCH for this fix! The hosts file editing was the solution for me. Just for the record, my problem was the sound out (my mic) was working, but the sound in wasn't. I couldn't hear the person I was talking with.stevenao wrote:Good News! I have fixed the mic routing problem.

It fixed my problem with softphone. I had a lot of background noise, so I or other party couldn't hear anything except background noise. Cheers
