My Given Area does not look local

Hi,

I use the fongo mobile app and I love it. The problem I am having is, the area code given to me when I signed s not local. I live in Ottawa On, and according the the site the following area codes are supported:
613
343

The problem is: 343 is not local. When one tries to dial the number without a "1" it says it will try try and complete a long distance call and fails. Dialling with a 1 works, but people will be apprehensive about dialling what looks like a long distance number.

Any advice?

343 is an overlay of 613 so 343 numbers should not be long distance especially when you are talking about Ottawa numbers.

It could be that the callers phone company does not have the rate tables set up properly, and really the only way to sort this out is to get them to call into (say Bell or Rogers) and say that they are being charged long distance for a local call. This will then get it looked into and sorted out.

This unfortunately isn't something that Fongo can sort out, it has to be done through the other phone companies by their customers. Theoretically it should all be automatic, but we all know how well the cogs run at phone companies.

I am actually just outside of Ottawa. I had someone in Ottawa call me at the number and it was not long distance - which is good. But then my next door neighbour calls me and it is *sigh*

Can you give a more detailed idea of where you are and what number your neighbour is calling from (first 6 digits only). Then we should be able to see if it would actually be long distance, or if it should be local.
