ATA Cannot register - Failed

Post by 3p414 »

Hello,
Everything was working fine until yesterday but all of a sudden there is no dial-tone.
The configuration page says registration failed.
Tried rebooting and waiting for 5 minutes with power off.. Still no luck.

Any services outages in Ottawa area?

help??

Re: ATA Cannot register - what is "register" anyone, pls?

Post by tlon »

I'm hoping someone can explain what this whole "registration" notion is about, specifically the two bold-faced items in double quotes :

1. what is meant by fongo having to "force registration" on an account ?
2. what is meant by the ports need to be open in order "to allow desktop app to register" ? (and this is without an ATA)

Seems the old freephonline desktop app had no issue with "registration" of one form or another (I assume it's because the old app used standard ports...to go through soft / hard firewall.) Why not just allow people to use standard ports for the desktop app (without ATA)? i.e. if the app can't "go through" (or "register"?) through the new ports, why not just fall back on the old ports which worked fine... but the real question for me is: what does "registration" mean? (seems that it's more than a one-time hand-shaking 'thing'?)

Thanks in advance for any volunteer who's willing to give this is a shot...
