2 accounts (ATA and IPHONE 4S) both ring when you call ATA

Post by tony_qc »

Hi,

I hope someone can help me like I did in the beginning of the community.
But since I do not play with voip since awhile, I do not remember how we can do it.

What I want to archive is you have 2 FPL accounts with unlock keys (one ATA and one IPHONE 4S) because I remember only one device can be registered at the same time.
When you call ATA or iphone, both ring and the first who take the call will answer. If I remember something like called ``asterix`` can do it.
Also I want to receive and send SMS with the Iphone (I saw frongo but have a 5$ fees by mount can't use a FPL account)

Plz help.
thank you

Also if Asterix is a software, can it be hardware or online so I do not need to keep my computer open and just change the proxy in the PAP2T.

thank you

I think how I would do things if I read your requirements right would be to -

1. Set up a Fongo account on the iPhone. This is free and has the option of being able to text to other Fongo accounts for free, or a small amount for unlimited texting to anyone.
2. Set up a FPL account and buy the unlock key for your ATA.

This will obviously give you two phone number so you will have to decide which will be your main number. I would suggest you do choose the one you are going to call mostly with because when you make outgoing calls they will be from the different numbers and may get confusing for someone. FPL and Fongo now have the ability to ring multiple numbers at a time, so you would set up simultaneous ringing on your main number and enter your other number as the other number to ring (this is done in your online admin area). So when a call comes in both devices will ring, but as I mentioned before when you make an outgoing call it will be from whatever device you call from.

Failing that you could set up an account with someone like pbxes.org who are an online PBX service and then get them to connect to a single FPL account (with unlock key) and then get your two or more device to connect to this account as extensions. This has the advantage of only using one account, and so one number. But does come with some disadvantages - using a 3rd party where you possibly might have to have a paid account, and you can't text via this setup.

An Asterisk, or other PBX setup, would allow you to do something similar to above, but usually requires the use of a dedicated computer that needs to be on all the time. Setting up devices to connect outside the home network can also be a bit of a fiddle.

Personally I would set up Fongo on my iPhone, and FPL on the ATA and get them to ring both at the same time when my Iphone number was called.

I had a feeling they were going to do something like that. There has been a few reports of people's setups on there not working right and it saying that a paid account is required.

I believe it will still be an option, but you will have to buy a paid account on pbxes.org. sipsorcery is another site you might want to look at, but they stopped giving out free accounts a long time ago.

If texting is important, then you can't do it via FPL. You will have to have a Fongo app on your iPhone.

I have found an app which will probably do the job, http://thevphone.biz/faq.html , its allow us to use any voip provider to send and receive phone calls and SMS but I need the http for SMS in FPL. I have 1 unlock key for my ATA already up and running. Im ready do buy an other unlock key for this Iphone app but I need to know the HTTP for SMS. And I will make both ring simultaneous with the follow me options. And give only the Iphone number :D

5. How do I setup the SMS function?

"You will need to confirm whether your provider has SMS functionalities using the http method. 1 way to confirm this is to check on their website and confirm if they have an SMS sending facility using the web browser. If they do, then you can search their web site for the SMS http API or strings to use."
