Port Forward Impossible?

Post by Hugonium »

Hey folks,

I signed up for freephoneline with the promise of being able to shave off a few more bucks off my monthly bills and I'm excited. I have an SIP Device ordered and I have a VOIP key ready to go. I wanted to test the soft-phone just to test out the new phone number and I'm run into a problem with my ports. This problem doesn't just pertain to freephoneline but I feel maybe a few of you can help me out if you've encountered something like this before.

I'm with Rogers Internet and their 2-in-1 DOCSIS 3.0 brick of a gateway router. I'm turned it into a bridge so I can connect my own separate router for wireless.

Now, whenever I try to make a call to my freephoneline number it points me straight to voicemail. I have the desktop app open and there's no way for me to make a connection to it. When I call FROM the softphone to my cell phone it makes the connection but no audio ever goes through. I did a test and it says I need to port forward 13000. Upon a bit more research I found I also need to open 5050-5051 and 6060-6061.

I've tried this with two routers separately: The D-Link DIR-655 and the Linksys WRT160N v3 (TomatoUSB & DD-WRT) and whenever I do a port check it always shows up saying that the ports are not open. I even DMZ'd and that doesn't work either. I'm having the presumption that Rogers is doing something funky and I'm about to give them a call. I'm just wondering if any of you experienced this and if you good folk are able to lend a hand. I'm in desperate mode right now :(

Many thanks,
Dennis
