no message indictor light or tone

no message indicator light or tone.

No message indicator light alert or blinking after leaving the message.
What might be the problem?

Am I correct to assume you're using a PAP2T?

If you FORWARD voicemails to email, you would get no visual notification on your device, since it would move itself from the server, directly to your email inbox.

If you COPY voicemails to your email, you would get the visual notification on your device, since it would be on the server as well as your mail inbox. - To get rid of this mwi notification on your device you would however need to delete it via your phone.

I have my setting to copy, and have PAP2-NA

EDIT: changed the setting to none and tried...same results...changed setting back to copy...

You've tried changing Message Waiting Indicator and VMWI in Supplementary Service Subscription to YES in both Line 1 and User 1?
