2 fongo numbers behind a router

Post by grovepark »

I soon am going to have 2 Android phones with 2 Fongo numbers on a router with dry loop ADSL in my home. My reading in the forum and internet, and some fiddling suggested to me that it requires a new VOIP router for the 2 SIP phones to work. If that's the case which router would you recommend for a configuration of 2 smart phones and 2 laptops in a home?
I read that many people use router with dual ATA ports, is this something I need for my 2 androids? (I probably won't be using 2 ATA's but ok if it works for 2 androids)
Thanks for any input.

We have 4 ipods and an Android phone running Fongo, and we have not had any problems. This is on top of have FPL for our home phone.

You should be fine with the app. People tend to have problems running ATA's rather than the mobile app.

Thanks for your quick reply.
Are you saying I do not need to buy a dual port router? will a general standard router do fine? would a standard router need any special configuration like port forwarding, RTP, separate IP...for each SIP client? (newb on networking here)
Someone says that newer router is smarter, needs minimal configuration.
I did play around with 2 android phones running FONGO on a Bell router, they both connected to the network but with same dynamic IP and the connection dropped after 15 mins. Same thing happened when I tried with the router at work. Switched to assigned static IP same problem connection dropped (I have not looked into the BEll router to see what kind of setup can be modified reason is I will ditch the Bell line and return the router)
Any idea welcome.

Do you mean your call dropped, or the app turned itself off?

You shouldn't need any special router or do anything to it. We don't here and don't have any problems with them. Now and again I see the Android is logged out, but I either click to wake it back up again, or it does it on it's own when a call comes in. Either way I don't miss any calls/texts (that I am aware of) and it doesn't stop me calling/texting out.

Connection drop I meant that there was no more connection to internet, the Fongo butterfly logo went from blue to red and no internet access.
Reason was there were 2 Fongo app running on 2 android smart phones.(both are Samsung GIO)( when I turned off one phone the other phone connection stayed on solidly with Fongo app.)
I then found that both phones were assigned the same IP address (automatic assignment by router) so there was a conflict here.
(surprisingly same problem happened when I brought both phones to use with router at work which is configured to use with multiple wifi devices).

I managed to get a diiferent IP address for one phone at home, but again connection on one phone dropped after 15 mins.

That is why I started to do some digging and heard about VOIP router with dual port which maybe the solution for my problem.
