almost every call is dropping after 32 secs
Have just recently purchased 2 config files for seperate phone numbers and wating for a port over of my home phone line.
Unit was shipped to me configured for one of my current FFL numbers and that is not as of yet ported home number (reconfigured to use my other FPL number)
On both lines almost every call I have made has disconnected after 32 secs - as shown in my call logs
What could be causing this?
Call quality is great have tried with nothing but ata connected and even hammered the connection with torrents.
Set-up
Router is a speedstream 6520
have enable QOS to a dedicated ip set for ata, in anticipation of this move over to new phone service have set ata to highest priority and reduced level of priority for Everything else on network.
ata is brand new from FPL Linksys pap2t

Re: almost every call is dropping after 32 secs
I'm thinking it's got to be something in that router/modem causing this, as it's the only possible link between the ATA and the WWW
Maybe someone else here is familiar with that model and can shed some light?

Re: almost every call is dropping after 32 secs
You are correct modem is the issue.
Set up box at neighbors and all was absolutely perfect.
It is perfect here "except" for the dropped call 32 secs into EVERY conversation?
Any suggestion on which type of router configuration change may be possible?
I am totally aware this is an unsupported issue just looking for a little guidance in which way i should be looking, I would prefer to modeify the router configuration than purchase a new one?
Does FPL sell router/pap combinations? (if I am gonna purchase would rather send a few bucks to the free service provider)

I'm glad this was easily diagnosable! Kudos to you for checking at your neighbours place - this is a prime example that faulty hardware can cause problems that people often think are caused by uskevingamble wrote:You are correct modem is the issue.

I believe the only router/modem combo's we sell right now are for our DSL customers - it would actually cost you quite a lot more to buy it just on it's own without our DSL bundle.
If you're looking on the market though, I highly suggest the SpeedTouch modems and any D-Link router with their Automatic QoS control. I use both the D-Link DGL-4300 and DGL-4500 on separate networks at home - never once had to setup any port forwarding or dmz to make my ATA work - it's literally plug and go. I think they make a ~$100 model with this feature too. Try to look for a modem that can be switched into bridge mode - this will eliminate any firewalling in the modem as an issue by letting the router do all the work.

Re: almost every call is dropping after 32 secs
In the meantime, with the speedstream... and give me some time for troubleshooting if you will, I may have access to this model (No guarantee).
First we'll do the standard diagnose an issue thing (Unplug, wait one minute, plug in.)
Then seeing it's a speedstream, I'm going to guess it's a router/modem combo. (These always annoy me as they're usually under-powered as routers, and flashing to third party firmware would at best, brick the modem portion.)
If it has DMZ settings availabe, attempt to add the ATA to the DMZ, turn of the WiFi if it has it, and unplug any ethernet attached devices other than the ATA.
(Basically I'm wondering if it might be related to a poorly setup QOS system.) Hopefully, having nothing other than the ATA attached, will avoid QOS related problems.

Re: almost every call is dropping after 32 secs
a little research pulled up an identical issue with another router
from another tech support forum

Hi,
I have connected a Voip ATA model LINKSYS 3102 to a Netgear wireless N Router Model WNR2000. I have a UNIDEN cordless phone connected to the ATA. It worked perfectly for a week but suddenly all outgoing calls began to drop after exactly 32 seconds.
I have rechecked the settings and can confirm that:
- ports 5060 - 5061 udp have been correctly forwarded on the router to the ATA IP address (192.168.1.2)
- RTP ports for 16384 – 16482 udp are forwarded as well.
I changed the codec from G729a (it worked correctly initially with this setting) to G711a and it became worse ie mobiles would not ring, land lines would ring but in all cases the calls still got disconnected after exactly 32 seconds.
So I have changed the codec back to G729A.
I reset all devices - model and router but this did not help.
Please help.

I'll do some research with that router as well as that particular release of firmware and see if there are any details on it. Email me if you need an immediate response, I may not be able to get to it until later in the day!

Re: almost every call is dropping after 32 secs
Just found a sweet deal on kijiji
Thompson Speedtouch 780WL DSL Modem/Wireless Router, WiFi & Voip,USB & Ethernet c/w setup cd-rom. Previously used in Bracebridge for DSL internet using Teksavvy Internet Service Provider.
I am assuming that this is a model you see often in setups that works well?
I would have switched to you guys for DSL but i would blow the lid of the 20 gig cap too easily.... If you offered a unlimited tier for a little more would probably switch

Re: almost every call is dropping after 32 secs
I was hoping to see a solution to this as I am having the exact same issue...I have a Speedstream 6520 and just had my number ported and now the calls drop after 32 seconds. I too bought a preconfiged ATA from FPL.
We can't be the only 2 with speestream 6520's.
EDIT: did some research and it may be related to the ISP... we both have Acanac ...see last post first page here:

I have no idea what an ACK is though. Is this related to Acanac? since we both use the same ISP too. (its funny that we have almost the exact same setup)Hi Kamen
Thanks for the traces.
The issue is quite clear.
I the case where the phone is hanging up at 32 seconds, no ACK is being received from the server.
There is no fix for that from the client side and the client is doing the correct thing by hanging up.
I'd suggest contacting the provider in question to see why they are not sending an ACK, or if they are, where they are sending it to.

Re: almost every call is dropping after 32 secs
I should note that when I first plugged in the phone it didn't work... when the ATA was given to me preconfigured, Line 1 was the Softphone and Line 2 was the home number. I realized that I had to change my settings on my ATA so that my home number was on line 1 and then turn off line 2....then it worked...or should I say partially works for 32 seconds.
I did some more reading a apparently this router may have issues with port 5060...how can I make it work on 5061?

Re: almost every call is dropping after 32 secs
after purchase of a new router - the one suggested by the forum rep - used for 40 - all is perfect now.... (with ata) still have to actually configure router on board ata - acanac is not the issue and neither is freephoneline.
The 6502 and and a few other router i found through searching gave same issue - it appears with newer firmwares and disappears with new firmwares .....
My 6520 had big bond cable firmware on it and i was unable to downgrade it..............
take your box and plug it in behind a friends computer, easiest way to troubleshoot whether your other hardware is causing interference.
I spent 5 years working for a large ISP, and if there is one thing i learnt back then (in old @home days) well over 90 percent of issues are caused by subscribers hardware and incompatibilities.
Just by trying on someone elses network i was able to pinpoint issue in 30 seconds was related to my setup

I don't have the Bell firmware on the 6520 anymore...I switched it out over a year ago. Maybe I should try updating the firmware and see if it works. If not I need a new router.

Another thing to note is that only outgoing calls are dropped after 30 seconds....I called my home number from work and it stays connect though the wife says it has static and echo, though she sounds fine to me.

An ack is the second half of a SYN/ACK transaction (Synchronize / Acknowledge )Scoponox wrote: I have no idea what an ACK is though. Is this related to Acanac? since we both use the same ISP too. (its funny that we have almost the exact same setup)
SYN "Hi, my name is Bloodsong, Let's play"
ACK "I Acknowledge that your are Bloodsong"
--Connection Open--
So without the ACK, your client thinks "hmm, I must have introduced myself to someone who doesn't speak my language, I'd better move on."
--Connection Disconnect--
It's one step in the TCP/IP exchange process that helps to ensure no crossed lines etc.
If Acanac is misrouting these intentionally or non-intentionally, you will find that all or nearly all Acanac customers would have an issue with FPL.

Can i have a copie of that firmware? version? from where?
do you use Outbound Proxy? (try yes)
can you update and use your modem with the latest official firmware?
I think you problem come from your firmware or the settings....

it was a modified big pond cable firmware - could not be downgraded... has many more options than bell firmware, could even use it with cable as a router and other things

It was a Bell modem....not sure it it unlocked but it have the Siemens logo when I access it. I can't remember where I got my latest firmware from, but currently i have Firmware Part #: 004-E752-AEY
I got my firmware "Update_E752_AEY_106-65_1210_v1r.exe" from here: http://www.modemsupport.com.au/index.html With this firmware I don't have QOS though. I think i should set the ATA with a static IP ..how do I do this?
Which firmware are you running?
By the way, I tried to change the Outbound Proxy (under Line 1 tab) to yes, but it still dropped the call after 30s. So I have set it back to NO

Re: almost every call is dropping after 32 secs
OK I set the ATA with a static IP and changed the forwarded ports to the same IP address...and now I can connect to the server for some reason ...its says
BTW is it correct that the gateway IP address for the ATA be the same as the router?
I check the 6520 and the ATA doesn't show up in the list of devices. So I enabled the DHCP and right away it reconnected to the server ...but I still get a dial tone even with the ports forwarded to the static IP settings I left. How does simply changing the ATA to a static IP make the router to able to find it?Registration State: Can't connect to login server
BTW is it correct that the gateway IP address for the ATA be the same as the router?

Yes, the 'gateway' is more or less a... well, gateway, to the internet. The only IP Address you should worry about if it's the same is your actually ATA IP Address but if it is set to static then all should be well.
Is the 6520 a router or modem? -- If you flashed it with the Bell firmware it may have some weird DHCP setting that cannot be seen from the web GUI.

Re: almost every call is dropping after 32 secs
The 6520 is actually a modem/router combo. Apparently the earlier model 4200 had the exact same problem with disconnects after 32s because port 5060 was blocked (huge thread here: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-re ... m?t=570249). I noticed tony_qc settings had his port set to 6060...but I think i tried this already with no success.
My 6520 had Bell firmware but I reset it with the Siemens software as I mentioned above. i wonder if I should try a different firmware.
I still don't understand though why when I set the ATA to a static IP, the router doesn't see it (...though it did once but after I reboot the router it lost it again).
