The short answer is, you can't.
It is only the Fongo app that is able to cope with texting. ATA, desktop, and home phone lines can't get text, nor text to speech unfortunately. I believe some cell providers and some phone providers will do the conversion for you, but that will be their side, not FPL's.

The question though is "why not?!" Since the SIP protocol, that FPL runs on, supports the equivalent of SMS messages and even presence information. The only reason Fongo and FPL don't support it is because they choose not to. Hopefully that will change, soon.

Thank you so much for your feedback! Can you please provide an example of a Canadian VoIP provider that has that functionality built in?
I will raise this to the Dev team.
Thanks,

Hi Support,
As you had inquired, LES.net is a Canadian VoiP provider with this functionality built-in, and has been in operation for quite some time now.
Thanks!

That is not a good example. I have a few friends who used this and it's quite expensive compared with FPL. They all ported out from there to come back to FPL.

Re: How to get TEXT messages on FPL line
Thanks for your very quick response, Support! Very much appreciated!
You had requested for a Canadian VoiP provider with this functionality built-in (as I understood, no $$'s required extra - i.e. "Unlimited messaging" - comparable to Fongo's Unlimited messaging, which is a purchased add-on), and I responded, mentioning a provider that I use personally. I absolutely agree that LES.net is more expensive than FreePhoneLine.ca (i.e it is not free). However, it had been asserted earlier that FPL/Fongo had chosen not to implement such functionality.
This appears on the surface to be true: If this choice is due to ongoing cost, I understand that, and are sure that others would as well. HOWEVER - I would, as Fongo's service does, be ABSOLUTELY WILLING to pay for this feature! Other than Fongo, I cannot off of the top of my head think (other than mentioned) of another provider offering similar functionality (physically located and incorporated in Canada).
If I interpret your implication that this service would be costly to implement or support this feature, as Fongo charges for this feature (and I assume has a customer base to use this feature), I would be willing to pay for such an awesome compliment for my free phone service!
As always, your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again!
