Taki for Blackberry Playbook

Will it be possible to use TAKI to make Internet calls? I would like to call my daughter from my playbook to her Dell Voice Number. Thanks!

rd99ca, Dell Voice receives calls like any other phone line (that is internet based) you would call the number the same way you would call you home number while using TAKI

Sorry, what I meant was can I set up TAKI to use the Dell Voice settings, and use it like the Dell Voice desktop app?

In order to do that, you would require a Voip Unlock key which is no longer sold by Dell Voice, only by Freephoneline.

Even then, we can not guarantee that the service would work with that particular program.

It looks like they have tested it with FPL http://taki.sourceforge.net/ but you will still need the config file ($50 from FPL - Fongo/DV no longer sells them).

Let us know how you get on, I might splash out the $.99 for it.

Well it sounds like I should take one for the team then, as it seems the cheaper route.

OK, well it 'works'. Very simple to set up, just plug in your account number, password and server which FPL gives you when you buy the config file.

Now I did have a couple of issues, but these are probably more to do with Taki than FPL as it happened when I used normal landlines and cells also. It could be my setup here, but I don't get any problems normally.

1. When calling into the Taki from another phone, the Taki rang, but I didn't get a ringing tone on the phone to let me know it was ringing.
2. If I click 'ignore' or 'reject' when the Taki is ringing - it keeps on ringing after it has disconnected the call. I just closed Taki and that sorted that.

Other than that, it is basic, in early stages of development, but it does work, and is useable - but it would drive me nuts if it was my only sip device. Sounds was clear are no real lag was noticed.

No problems. I have been looking for a SIP client on the PB for a while.

I will say, don't expect Taki to go smoothly, you will probably have a few bumps along the way. It is in it's infancy as a SIP phone. As with all tablets, ear buds with a built in mic will be your friend.

Remember, to get the config settings, you have to sign up on FPL, not DV/Fongo.

Excellent work guys, also I may get my Uncle and Cousin to grab Taki on their playbooks for when they travel if this project works well.

I just came back from a vacation in Rome and Barcelona, Taki worked great, minimal delay and the quality was great. We did a trans Atlantic cruise, and Taki worked for the first few days, but the ships servers are in New York, and were only at 30% after Sandy hit. Overall, I am extremely happy with Taki and the Voip Unlock key by Freephoneline. I did multiple phone calls back to Canada, and one in Rome, and it only costs 7 cents!!!

Thanks for the feed back RD, FPL/Fongo really does come into it's own in situations like this. It's good to hear Taki works well for you. I have not needed to use it, but I do test with it now and again.

It seems to be getting better with each version they push out.

I only used it on the playbook and that was quite a while ago now. I didn't change any special settings, I just basically put in my login details and it worked.

One way audio is usually a router problem. Try either testing on another network or get the RTP ports forwarded in your router and see if that helps. You will have to dig around a bit and try and find what ports it uses as I am not too sure.

Have you tried it over a wifi connection?

It might also be worth trying to contact Taki about the issues. Looking here >http://taki.sourceforge.net/blackberry- ... /#comments it looks like others are having audio issues.

There isn't much you can do as you are going over LTE, but I would certainly try it on a wifi to test.

That is not the fault of Taki or the Playbook but a SIP over NAT issue. You have to configure the router to be able to router the RTP port properly, which is a bit of a nightmare on some routers.
