My HT286 ATA failed and I purchased a HT701 unit (the HT286 was no longer available).
I have the Freephone configuration file for the HT286 and I assume it will work for the HT701.
The configuration info has a mix of upper and lower case letters and numbers.
My analogue telephone only has a numerical key pad.
Do I need a special analogue phone that has numbers and letters to complete the configuration? If not, do you have any suggestions?
Configure HT701 ATA unit for Freephone service

You will configure the ATA by using a browser, not a phone. You details will indeed work on your new ATA.
This thread has a guide for setting up the 701 http://forum.fongo.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=5366

Re: Configure HT701 ATA unit for Freephone service
Thank you Jake for your prompt & helpful reply.
My ATA plugs into the ethernet connection on my modem and my analogue telephone. It seems to bypass my computer. How will I connect with my browser to input the configure file?
Looks like I am almost there. Thanks for your help

Re: Configure HT701 ATA unit for Freephone service
As long as your computer and ATA are all on the same network you will be able to get to the admin areas of the ATA by typing in the IP address of the ATA into your browser bar as though you were typing an URL, so something like 192.168.1.20
This is the quick start guide for the 701, it might be worth taking 5 minutes to go over it if you get lost in the setup guide I linked to. http://www.grandstream.com/products/ht_ ... nglish.pdf
Your next question will probably be, How do I know my ATA's IP address? So I will answer this now for you. It's near the top of that quick start guide.
1. With a phone plugged into the ATA, lift up the receiver and dial ***. This will get you into the IVR.
2. Next dial 02 and it should read the IP address back to you.
Now you can enter this number into your browser and gain access to the ATA. The guide says the default password is admin
I don't have a 701, but see how you go and report back with any problems.

Re: Configure HT701 ATA unit for Freephone service
Hi Jake, Help again !!!
For two weeks my ATA worked normally, receiving and making calls. I was very pleased.
Now the dial tone is intermittent, I disconnected everything and reconnected it. I got a dial tone but got a sped up busy signal when I made a call.
When I dial my number from another phone, the message comes on: “The person you are trying to reach is not available, please leave a message.”
Is there a setting in the formatting that I entered incorrectly that made the service time sensitive. or any other idea what might be wrong?
You solved my problem once, hopefully you can again. Thank you in advance for your help.

Make sure you have powered down everything, not just unplugged it. You will need to do modem, router and ATA; then power them back up in that order making sure each one settles down before powering the next one up.
If that doesn't work, then I would suggest to open a support ticket and PM the ticket number to Fongo Support. (see sig) they can see a lot more about your account.
