Can't text to SMS shortcodes (like Twitter's 21212)

When I enter the shortcode, Fongo treats it like a phone number and adds a 1, which prevents me from sending. I don't want to send to 121212, I want to send to 21212. As a result of this problem, I can't use Fongo for things like Twitter integration. What gives?

It doesn't look like it is current supported.
