Losing voice capabilities

Post by gadgets »

Hi,

Lately having lots of issues where we lose all voice on the line. Dead silence, but line appears to be still active, as other party says they are waiting for a response, or are talking, and don't notice until I hang up.
Don't remember it happening during the day, but evening/night happens on occasion, however tonight, happened 3 times in a row, from 2 - 20 minutes into the call. And the other person tried calling in, and couldn't get through.

When we tried calling back once, we used the LD access number in Toronto, and the system gave us a message that the number is already in use, so it looks like the service didn't register that we had hung up. Tried again twice more before it released it and it worked.

Getting very annoying.

Configuration is:

ATA: Linksys PAT2T-NA f/w ver: 5.1.6(LS)
Router: Linksys WRT310N f/w ver: 1.00.4-CA
Modem: DSL Speedstream
ISP: Colosseum.com 6 Mpbs

Any help would be greatly appreciated quickly as this is getting very annoying.

When did these issues start happening for you guys?

Also, is it during the call? Or at the beginning/end of the call where you notice this.

Do you have VAD enabled on your ATA? If so, get rid of it. It is a useless feature.

This can also be viewed as "Noise Suppression" or "Echo Cancellation" which I do agree, is useless in MOST cases.

I have had the same problem happen to me. Just happened to me last night. I was talking on the phone everything was working fine, then about 11 mins into the conversation, it went dead. Couldn't hear anything, just silence. When I hang up and make another call it works fine. This is about the third time this has happened to me and I don't use the phone very often at all.

Hi,

This has been happening on and off for the past several weeks. It happened to me tonight 3 times, between 1940 and 2000 hours Eastern, and the fourth time, there was a silent period for about 5 seconds.

First time: after 5 minutes
Second time: after 1 minute
Third time: after about 3 minutes
Fourth time: was the silence for a few seconds, then all was good.

I went to the ATA to see what was going on, to see when the silence occured, would the ATA still be transmitting, but alas, it never happened as I was staring at the ATA.

Anymore information you require, please let me know. Just don't ask me to call you in the evening though.... Having technical difficulties then.... ;-)

This happened to me again On Saturday afternoon. I was about 90 seconds into a call and the line just went dead. I called the person back about 60 seconds later and it was fine.

I too have been having this issue but just thought it was a setting I needed to modify on my PAP2 ATA. When I'm talking on the phone it could be a minute in or 5 minutes in the line goes dead with complete silence and then when I hang up and try to dial I get the message the line is already in use. This just started happening 2 weeks ago and there is no specific time as it happens during the day or evening.

That sounds strange  , have you guys double and triple check the configuration settings in your PAP2T with the one that FPL has in the device configuration device ( I checked and it was updated according to Steve) who knoes maybe there could be the answer there :D

What options do you have under "DTMF Tx Mode:" - Right now it is set to Strict, what else do you have?

Also, your DTMF Tx Method is set to Auto, can you try InBand?
