ability to have my PFL # number show when call fowarding

Post by kevingamble »

Is there any chance this could be an option implemented on your server side?
It would be a great option for users with my 5 type services on thier cellphone.....

or is there a way that it can implemented with the use of a third party like pbxes.org?
After reading i know it could be done using say an asterix server at home but want to keep it simple and redundant

we won't directly do this sorry
this would be in abuse of the TOC for most carriers' "my five" plans and could result in them blocking our CID all together...

You can do it, but keep in mind that if that's all you want to do with the 50$ config file you may get screwed. The reason: as Steve mentioned, the carriers may block the CID. So here are the steps:
1) Buy config file (not possible to skip that one).
2) In pbxes create a trunk for Freephoneline. Remember to put your freephoneline number as Caller ID.
3) Create a classic extension with your cellphone as the number.
4) Create an inbound rule which forwards to the extension you created above.
That's it, now your freephoneline number is forwarded to your cell with "CID masking".

If in a month or two the CID stops showing up...congratulations, you just wasted 50$.

Google voice is doing exactly that. When the call is forwarded, you can choose to show google voice number as caller ID or caller's number. And no one is blocking their caller ID. But this is Canada, eh. Robbers and Belus can do whatever they want.

Yes, you are right that in US GoogleVoice does exactly that and it doesn't have any impact, but there the market is different: many more people have cell phones and many more people use GoogleVoice. Technically if a provider blocks the CallerID for calls coming from freephoneline.ca then they will be breaking the terms of the agreement (because it clearly says 5 Canadian residential numbers and freephoneline.ca offers service to residential customers). So if a friend of mine uses freephoneline.ca as their phone service and I add his/her number to My5 and he/her calls me I shouldn't be charged. If I get charged then (together with many other people) I can sue Rogers/Telus/Bell for not honouring the terms of my contract. However, the problem is that there are very few people who would experience such wrong billing and so Rogers/Bell/Telus can get away with it. However, if you use a PBX then it will not be considered residential even though the wireless provider has no way of knowing if it is or it is not a PBX.

I think the main issue here is that freephoneline has a different business plan. They don't want to be just "an addition" to the phone service or a "forwarding/voicemail service" but they want to be "the phone service". And so, if everybody signs up to use freephoneline just for the forwarding then it doesn't really make sense for them (every call terminated is also an outbound call, no advertisments from the soft client, no ATA config. file purchase). With GoogleVoice the business plan is not very clear to outsiders.

I think for now the best option is to buy the config file.
