all incoming calls go to fast buzy every month or 3 weeks...

Post by dana_aki »

Hello,

I have bout the Sysco 2102 from modemoutlet about 6 months ago. The unit is new but has the 'clearwire' logo on it so im guessing it was once configured for clearwire but never been used. I have no issues making any outbound calls and inbound works well. The problem that i am facing is that aprox. every month or about every 3 weeks or so the ATA seems lose its incomming calls....... all incomming calls are going to fast buzy however outgoing calls are fine. What i do to fix teh issue is doing a factory reset on the ATA and everything goes back to normal for the next month or so and then back to fast buzy on all incomming calls. I DO NOT change any of the settign on the ATA i leave it alone and it goes to fast buzy. Seems like every month or so the ATA goes crazy and possiblly automatically changes the settings and somehting doesnt liek the incomming calls and goes to fast buzy. i know this is not a network issue as it works again when i do a factory reset (if it was a network issue it would not work even after a factory reset on the ATA). after a long time i figured out that the profile provisioning was pointing to clearwire.cfg... (or soemthing like that) i changed that to any random name (aviel2013.cfg) did a factory reset and as always it worked again for about one month and now its back to fast buzy on incomming calls..........

would anyone know what may cause this? it gets very anoying to do a factory reset every month......... (i have another same ATA at my other home location for about 2 yrs now and never had to do a factory reset on it at all)

I have no issue in calling out your problem, it is your router that needs to be replaced. By far, Belkin makes the worst routers out there! There is no company that I have so much rage against, than I do with Belkin. Sadly, that comes from experience.

I know it used to work, kinda, but the router is on it's last legs. You should be happy it lasted as long as it did, or that you never had to try to forward ports with this beast.

I strongly recommend your next router can be flashed with DD-WRT, to leave your options open.

Your CISCO SPA2102 was not much help either. Nothing wrong with the ATA in itself, but it offers no help if the router is mis configured in any way. Make sure the correct SIP and RTP ports are forwarded form the router to this ATA, to ensure a good experience.

If you see a router you like, let us know. I am pretty good at picking VOIP suitable routers.

Thank you for the reply......... one thing i dont get is if its a faulty router, how would it work right after i do a factory reset to teh ATA? if its the router wouldnt it continue not to work after i reset it to teh factory defaults and recofnigure the ATA as per FPL? the thing that gets me is that whenever the incoming calls stops working i never touch the router side. All i do it factory rest teh ATA and bring it back to specs..... currently my ATA is on DMZ mode + needed ports are opened up..

to me it seems as something happens on the ATA on a regualr periodic basis about every 3 weeks that brings the ATA to some sort of preconfigured settings which knocks out the incomming calls.

....... again, what i do to fix the issue is factory reset the ATA and reconfigure as to FPL spec and it works again for about 3 weeks... at no point do i touch the router to bring the incomming calls back to life.

please, any help would be greatly appreciated....

I understand your logic, and it would look like it has to be the ATA or Fongo at fault. Sadly, experience leads the problem to the quality of the router, which controls where the packets go.

The router keeps track of the ATA for a set period of time where it leaves an incoming port for the ATA to use, and then forgets about the ATA and closes the port. It is that bad a router! Most good routers offer the option to hard set ports to devices such as an ATA, and the Belkin has a page of settings, but they do not actually work!

You could get the ATA to set the registration time to a lesser time to remind the router it is there, but in my not so humble opinion, you are just adding a band aid to a lost cause. Get a better router.

I see--- would it matter that the ATA is set on DMZ mode? (ports are opened as well but its on DMZ)

Which router do you reccomand I buy thats best for using the Linksys ATA and is available in the market?

Again, that Belkin router is so bad, that the DMZ settings will not actually take. Just for a quick reference, futureshop is selling this DD-WRT friendly router for $40. http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/product/ ... e0b2ffen02 As long as it can be flashed with DD-WRT, it is usually a good router.

I found a cheaper, just as good, DD-WRT friendly router here. http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/tp- ... ageIndex=1
