Hello All,
I was wondering if any of you are not behind a firewall (router)? I have a friend who has a HT502, and couldn't get it working plugged into the router. So instead it went modem to ATA, then that goes to the router. One thing I noticed is that the web console of the ata was available externally, so I disabled the web console. Wondering if there is any other risks with doing it this way.

You should be fine. ATA devices are pretty stupid devices. Worst that can happen is you r Freephoneline account gets highjacked, and run up a bill of whatever you prepaid. Hacker still needs your freephoneline login credentials, as well as the ATA login credentials.bartekd wrote:Does anyone know?

Re: Not behind a firewall/Router
I already disabled the web console (which needs to be done by picking up the phone), so I should be good, right?
I would say you are safe. If I was extremely paranoid, I would change the SIP port to something non standard like 6060 from the default 5060 to throw off the automated port scanners out there. But that is probably not necessary.
Then again SIP VOIP in general is not exactly a secure setup. Saying that, I have not been knowingly hacked, as have most other people.

Re: Not behind a firewall/Router
FYI, if anyone is reading this, its not a good idea to do this. I ended up going this route of not being behind a firewall, and I had the web console activated for a few days because I didn't turn it off, and my account was hacked. There were lots of calls made on my account (used up all my balance) and freephoneline disabled the account for me until I talked to them.
