911 call error

Post by davecool »

This was very strange. I called 911 yesterday after hearing a car accident on my street. Fortunately it wasn't an emergency in my home because when I called, nothing happened. The first time I called, the line was just silent. I hung up after 30 seconds. When I tried the call again, a message came on and said something like "account is already in use". Anyone heard of this? Any idea what happened or how to ensure 911 works correctly in the future?

this sounds like it was related to your connection and not an issue with e911 services.

Just to chime in on my 911 experience. I did need to use 911 and while it worked, it took extremely long time to talk to anyone at local Fire/EMS/Police department. All 911 goes to the 3rd party dispatch centre, they ask phone number, my address then they call local 911 center and relay that information again. By the time I actually got to talk to anyone and report emergency, it took at least 2 to 3 minutes.

This is how the rule is for every voip provider. If you have a cell phone nearby, do use it first. I do not want to wait 2 extra minutes if I have a heart attack patient next to me.
