Incoming call coming as UNKNOWN

Post by ufarooq »

Folks,
I am relatively new user with Free phone line. Currently I am using it only as a "Follow me" service.
However, when someone calls my FPL number, it comes as unknown on my ROgers cell phone. But if someone calls my number directly, it shows the ID. Not sure what the problem is. Any help will be highly appreciated.
My Call Logs also doesnot show that number. I tried from my wife's phone as well. Its the same thing. When she calls my number directly, it comes with her number,, but if she call the FPL number, it comes as "UNKNOWN".
Please help.

Short answer, Blame Rogers. Less short answer, Rogers is not passing Freephoneline's caller id header for reasons only Rogers can give.

Well thats not right. One of my colleague has Rogers Cell phone and he has a FPL account as well. When he gets a call, he actually gets the number through the Follow me . The only thing differnet is that he is using FPL for about 2 years, I just started it.

Are both your cell phones based in the same city?

This seems to be geographical right now
I can't make it happen on a single rogers/fido cell phone I have access to in kitchener, and believe me, I've been trying lots.

If you have the problem, PM me your freephoneline number and rogers number. I'm trying to see if this is limited to certain cities, certain rogers exchanges, etc. It's definitely not an issue on our end because as I say, we're sending it out and it's being received (in most cases) just fine - only some are having this issue.

Best bet, start bugging Rogers as much as you can because we are powerless against them and can't even call their support unless we are a Rogers subscriber...

Hi Steve,

Just as an FYI...

I have the same issue, but not on my Rogers' phone.

It's when my calls are forwarded to my Voip.ms DID.

Did you happen to try an iPhone (particularly 3G/3GS)? I'm facing this issue only on iPhone. The moment I switch my Fido SIM to a different phone, CallerID starts working again.

I'm swimming in a sea of blackberries here at the office - unfortunately couldn't find an iPhone to test with!

We are in the same Geographical area and have the same area code both our FPL and the Rogers Phone.
I did PM you about my number. Did you have any luck ?

Which device are you using with Rogers? I'm facing this problem only with my iPhone (on Fido). With other devices (same SIM card), this seems to be working fine. I'd suggest try with a different device to see if it makes any difference.

Did you manage to find an iPhone yet? From my experience, FPL call to Rogers/Fido iPhone is a surefire way of reproducing this problem (doesn't even have to be forwarded). Can't say of Bell/Telus iPhone though asI couldn't find any to test with.

FPL call straight to iPhone is fine for me.
Forwarded FPL calls display unknown on my iphone
I'll have to try tonight with different phones.

Reasonably sure I've seen FPL calls coming through as unknown on my Telus cellphone.

Just to add my own test to the lot: I have an iPhone 3G on Rogers, and when using FollowMe feature, a call from my Bell POTS line to my FPL number gets forwarded to my cell with correct CallerID information.
