No dial tone since I move to new country

Post by Prov »

HI all,
I moved from North America to Asia now I can't make phone calls, event worst I don't event have a dial tone when I pick-up the phone.
My configuration were fine in Canada and I was able to make phone calls.
All lights are green + line 1.
When I pick-up the phone the Call 1 State change from "IDLE" TO "Invalid"
I am using a Lynsys pap2

Help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Do you have any lights on, and make sure the phone is plugged into line 1.

Power and Internet lights are on
The phone is connected to line 1 and the light for line 1 is turned off.

Can it be a restriction on the country?
Should the line 1 turn on event if I am not connected over the Internet?
Can it be a settings on freephone line servers?
When I check my sip settings (on freephoneline.ca servers) it's say disconnected event if everything is connected but line 1 light is turned off.

The line 1 light should be lit, this will be why you are not getting a dial tone. The ATA is not connected to the FPL servers. You should still hear DTMF tones when you press the buttons on the keypad though.

This could either be because of the router or your ISP is blocking the voip ports.

Try the tests on this page and see what you get http://www.ispgeeks.com/wild/modules.ph ... p_Firewall

Did you take your phone with you, or did you buy it over there?

I'm wondering if either the phone works on different settings, voltages and such - or it could be the phone might be faulty.

I have no experience in this matter, so all I can do is try and guess at causes. You should get some sort of tone no matter what the state of registration. Is the phone a pulse dial, or tone dial?

I tried with 2 phones from Canada and with one phone from Here. They are all touch tone phones.
All of them have no external power source. So I connect the phone cord to the ATA adaptor.
No dial tone, no lights turn on for line 1. I tried with line 2 and same issue.
And no sounds when I press any keys on the phone.
It's also not possible for me to do a reset to factory default because I need the phone to do that. Weird problem!

What country are you now in? Which Linksys ATA are you using? Do you have an original Linksys switching power (approved for the local voltage) supply?

Thailand is one of the places that might do some VOIP blocking particularly in hotels but voip clearly works for some people. I assume that you have tried to determine what IP address the ATA receives (If any) from the router. To do this, you need to pick up the phone attached to the Line 1 jack and dial **** (four asterisks) and then dial: 110 # . tf you have set a fixed IP for the ATA it could be that the IP is already used for something else on the new network and will need to be changed.

The problem I have is a hear nothing when I pick-up the phone or press any key on the phone.
I found the ATA ip address with the DCHP releases on the router.
I connect to the ATA via Http:// no problem but I have no dial tone or sounds when I press a key on the phone itself.
I used the **** features few times from Canada to reset to factory default and get the IP address.

My question is: Should I hear dial tone or sound when I press on key on the phone regardless where I am in the world?
The dial tone is not generated from the ATA itself?
If the answer is Yes maybe my ATA didn't like the travel in the airplane.

Thanks

The dtmf tones are generated from the phone.

It seems like your phone is not getting power for some reason. The phone can either be powered from the phone cable or by an adapter depending on the type of phone.

You have said you have tried 3 phones, did you also change the cables? It could be that your phone cable is broken. Is there any indication that the phone is getting power (keypad lighting up, lcd display coming on, etc)?

I connected my Pap2t to a different router.
Still no dial tone BUT when I did pressed a key I had a sound so I've been able to reset to factory default my PAP2T. I reconfigured the device and it's now working fine.
I am happy with the solution and thanks for the help provided.

Thanks for letting us know. It's a little strange that the router was causing the problem, but whatever it was it is good you got it working again. There was obviously just something with your setup that just wasn't working.
