Will echo disappear with ATA?

I have been trying to get Freephoneline working using the PC client version. Its taken some effort, but I believe that was due to a PC microphone issue. I'm fairly adept at routes, port forwarding, and such. However, when originating a call from freephoneline the person I'm talking to hears their voice echo when talking. Is there a common solution to this? I have a fairly good DSL access, powerful PCs and a good router (ipcop based).

Would the echo disappear if I were to purchase an ATA? My goal is to have an ATA-based solution anyways, but I'm hesitant to purchase the ATA if the voice quality has echos.

Some searching here says echo's is related to ports not being open. I have used portforward.com's application and have ensured ports 5060/5061/6060/6061/13000/13001 are all open.

Any ideas and advice appreciated - thanks in advance.

are you using mic+speakers, or headset?

The originator (A) is using the freephoneline client on the PC (upgraded last night to whatever the latest version is).

The terminator (B) is a household line (a basic 2.4GHz cordless), but no speaker phone being used.

I think it would be safe to say you will not have echo problems with an ATA. If you want to minimize the echo problems with the soft phone, use the soft phone volume control and slowly lower it when talking to the other party. See what happens. I think it will fix your problem. the other party's voice is getting fed back through your mic and speakers, thus the echo.
