I have received a call purported to be from Air Miles (I have contacted them as well) informing me that I had been chosen to receive something like 200,000 air miles if only I would press "1". I assumed this to be a scam and hung up. I also recognized the phone number as being a Freephoneline number, very similar to my own. Since I believe FPL numbers are for residential use only, I have decided to inform Fongo of this so that it can be investigated from your end as well as from the Air Miles end. The phone number of the originating call is: 705-881-4111.
I trust you will look into this as there are entirely too many telephone scams happening these days, and any attempt to disrupt them is very welcome. Please feel free to let me know the results of this investigation.
Regards,
Bruce Flemington

Re: Air Miles scam using FPL number ??
This PN is not currently being used by a Fongo customer. It is likely someone has set up a system and is using then umber as a display number.

They probably spoofed the number to be similar to yours on purpose. I would have thought people are more likely to pick up the phone to what would appear to be a local cal, rather than a long distance call. All they would need to do is change the last 4 digits and keep the rest the same, then it would look as though it was coming from the same exchange.

I have received this call as well at work, through to my ext. Then umber that had displayed (that we caught in our system) has been blocked from reaching our network.
Usually, in these instances, the caller is displaying a different number than the number they are actually calling from (as was happening in the case of the call i received)
