porting from bell

Post by jenn.nguyen68 »

Hi,

I registered with FPL Wednesday and also put in a request to port my number from Bell. I currently have bell fine internet, TV, and home phone.

I spoke to a Bell representative in-person yesterday, as a general customer without making my identity known or accessing my current account. The gentleman told me that because I currently have Bell Fibe internet - without a dry loop - Bell will not enable my number to be ported even if I did not let them know regarding my intent to port out.

I am very worried regarding the porting process. I followed the FPL recommendations to not notify my current service provider. Have you had similar issues? I'm not sure if I call bell to request a dry loop or continue to avoid contacting them. I understand it may take up to 14 days, but is it possible to check the status of the porting process?

Any help is appreciated!

I'm not entirely sure if Bell is allowed to stop your number from being ported out. I don't know if you are obliged to keep a valid home phone number with them because of the services or bundle you have, but I don't think they are legally allowed to keep your number hostage - unless they have got wind that you are moving and have cancelled your account already, which is block any porting attempts.

I know it is not the same, but when I cancelled my phone line with Bell they automatically set up a dry loop for my DSL. As far as I know there isn't a dry loop fee if you are a Bell internet customer.

Hopefully someone who has gone through your process will be able to expand a bit more.

What are do you live in? It is possible we are unable to port from that location. Also, have you put in a cancellation request already with Bell? That would also prevent us from being able to port out the number.

Hi, so I received the port confirmation email today from Fongo early this morning. My service with Bell has been discontinued. I've set up my ATA with my ported number and it is not working. I am getting "This account number is not valid" message whenever I try to call the ported number and when I try to make a call from the ported number. When I login to freephoneline.ca, my account number is still showing as the number given by FPL/the FPL number is still functioning...

Hi there,

I believe that your ATA device is not setup correctly. As long as you follow the FPL guidelines- there should be no issue.

To review our gudelines- please see below:

Please try and let me know.

Thanks,

As above, make sure the ATA is set up correctly.

Also make sure you have entered the initial 1 on your account number (so it will be 11 digits long) and also make sure that you have entered the password correctly. Several letters and numbers can look very similar in certain fonts. (oO0,1lI,etc) If you copy/paste it can also be that white space is added to to what you copy. What I usually do is copy/paste the password into Windows Notepad and it makes it easier to read.
